Does anyone please know what I can clean Evie's kittens faces with? I think Evie must have been cleaning the wrong end first because almost all of them have yellow staining on their faces. So far, it has been so bad it has put me off taking photos of them but they are 5 weeks old today and I really, really need some photos of them, if only to put on here, lol.
They are slobbering the milk and it is getting sticky and smeared as they stay latched on, even falling asleep and letting it dry. Just try a warm compress to soften it and gently rub the milk off. When it is soft, mom will probably finish the cleaning. You might check her nipples to see if they need cleaning too. Use the same technique.
The staining is most likely from the food they are eating, I've seen it on a lot of kittens that age, they can be messy eaters when in competition with each other. It will get better as they get the hang of eating solids and start cleaning themselves. Warm water and cotton wool or soft cloth should help clean it up a bit.
Hi,

It is dried milk. Some kittens or cats stain more than others. Clean the belly of the mom first with just warm water. You may see brownish stains there. You can try cleaning the faces of the kittens with just warm water also. This will get better with age.

I only had one litter with this and when I took first photos at week five I said on the website that the kittens have just dined and so they still have milky faces. People understood but it was the best photos.Big Grin
Thanks for the advice. I feel a bit silly having seen the answers but this is my fourth litter and the first time I have experienced such badly stained faces. I have been bathing them but this didn't seem to be having any effect however they do seem to have improved aver the last day or two. Strangely it doesn't seem to have affected the bi-colour girl who has the palest face.

Pictures are now in the kitten section Smile
