I am battling my 5th kidney stone, but this one is not like the others. Except for my first one, I've either been able to pass them on my own, or as soon as they hook me up to an IV in the ER, the stone flushes out. But, not this time. This time's been different all the way around. No warning, no prior, usual symptoms. Pain came in waves, would lessen & then bam, would be excruciating - to where I could not move. And I have nausea & vomiting with this one. And I screamed! That's NEVER happened before, not with the other 4 or in my 3 natural childbirths! Trip to the ER did nothing except confirm it's a kidney stone & give me pain & nausea meds. Over a week later, & I'm still trying to pass it on my own. Ugh I am in so much pain!
Has any one ever had a kidney stone? Any advice? I have a feeling this one is going to be a trip to the hospital with lots of morphine and possible surgery. UGH.
I think I would rather give birth to a soccer team than pass this kidney stone.
Bless your heart! I've heard they can really be excruciating. I've heard there is some kind of therapy where they put you in water, then vibrate the stones until they fall apart into little pieces. Is that an option for you?

I am going to look into it. It must be an option. My God you would think we have all sorts of medical options here.
Thank you for that suggestion
On no Lexi!! I've never had one, but my husband has had a couple, and boy were they bad. I actually had to just make him a bed in the bathroom floor because he was in so much pain, like you he was sick. It's horrible to watch someone in so much pain. I really feel for you. Please keep us up on how things are going for you. Especially if you're going to be going to be in the hospital! Hope you pass it soon.
I have never had one, but like the others, I hear they are very painful. You're in my prayers. Hope you get some relief soon.
My father had a bad stone last year, due to dehydration. He is an athlete, so easy to happen. He was able to pass his, he looked into herbal remedies, but they failed for him. He said it was very painful, they say for a man it is like giving birth.....he almost needed surgery, but passed it eventually....I am sorry this has happened to you darln', I have never had one myself but through my father I realized just how trying and painful it is to have one. I hope you pass it soon:)and...hehehe at your comment about rather giving bith to a soccer team ...I imagine my father thought the same even being male!...let us know how you get onSmile
I hope you pass it soon, or find some alternative...anything to make you feel better! Never had one, but I've had chronic UTI's so I know how sensitive you can be in the kidneys and urinary tract. I was just searching online a bit and there seems to be a process similar to what Janilee mentioned called Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). They pass shock waves through your body that break up the stone, and it also says this is the most commonly used method for helping with kidney stones (this is from WebMD). Hope you can get some relief soon!
Any news Lexi?? I hope it's passed!

That's it, Jenny-lithotripsy! Thank you for looking that up. I'll bet Lexi can find a doctor in NYC who's heard of that. Smile

Aww, I've never had a stone but have seen patients who've had them... I feel for you! For at home treatment our docs recommend drinking lots and lots of water to help flush out the urinary system, and to take pain meds to reduce discomfort. Obviously go back to the doctor if you're hurting so bad you can't sit still, or get a fever, or have any nausea/vomiting etc and then they might start thinking about trying some other treatment options. I've heard you can help to prevent them by drinking tea and orange juice. Hope this helps and that it passes soon!!
