From a few days old to a week. Other colours will differ I suppose. It must be harder when you are expecting lots of colours in the one litter, as people often mix up Seals and Chocolates, Blues and Lilacs and I've even see them mix up Blues and Chocolates. Tortie litters would be even harder! As some torties can be almost all red/cream giving the affect that they are actually that rather then a tortie, or almost all seal/blue/choc/lilac giving the affect that at such a young age they could be that. Mitted Ragdolls with large blazes, like Solo, can also be hard to tell when expecting bicolours in a litter when really young, as all paw pads and nose leather would be pink, like a bicolour. I guess it all depends on the individual kitten, the breeder's experience etc.

Ragdolls are not the only cats to colour up over time, all pointed cats are. Siamese, Birmans, Balinese are just a few examples. Even moggies can be pointed too. Smile

As for the bicolours, mitteds, lynx, torties etc. They are all pointed too. I am not the best explainer but imagine a pointed ragdoll and a bicolour ragdoll to be solid cats (born with their colour), a pointed would have no white and be completely colour. A mitted would be mostly colour with white mittens and boots and maybe a blaze. A bicolour would have all white legs and a nice 'V' if marked correctly. Now imagine all of these as pointed cats. Lets just say all Ragdolls are pointed, so you have a pointed bicolour, a pointed mitted, and just a plain pointed. This means none are born with colour. Some people are trying to get solid ragdolls accepted but for now all Ragdolls are pointed, I believe.

I hope thats not too confusing, even I think it sounds confusing when reading over it! Rolleyes

I really appreciate all of this informative detail on Ragdoll colors!!! You have no idea how much I value learning all of this, as I search for a Ragdoll kitten or even an adult. It was NOT confusing at all! lol So thoughtful of you to take the time to answer my question.

I looked at a breeder's site that just had a litter a few weeks ago, and they are all in the seal category. The seal bicolors are the most easy to determine in color patterns......you are right.

A breeder is recommending I put a down payment on an upcoming litter, as she is certain she will have some blues & lilacs ( I do luv the flames too.....of course, all the color patters are pretty), and it sounds like it may take her some time to be sure on those colors in the new litter.

And I learned something else with your post, and that is that all pointed cats deepen with their color patterns over time. I copied your post and am saving it for future reference for my search. THANKS!!Smile

Thanks so much, Wilson! Smile I sure will keep everyone informed......this search is so much fun.

I've discovered patience is the key in this adoption process, because Ragdolls are not as plentiful as domestic kittens/cats.

Your Sky & Evo are so precious. And how fun to be posting with someone from Sunshine Island in Singapore!

I just have to say: Pleeeese consider going with a big raggie! I was like you in that I wanted a smaller girl ragdoll, in fact, I was a little turned off by their size at first. Because I really wanted a bicolor, I ended up getting a boy--a BIG boy! and I am sooo happy I did...Dakota's size is one of my favorite things about him and I boast about it all the time. people are so impressed with his big size and laid back personality, I really hope he gets up to at least 15 lbs. Big raggies are just big teddy bears--more to love!! Okay I've rambled tooo long, I hope you consider being ok with a big raggie (you'll be glad u did i promise!), but of course you can't help but love any raggie (-:

(the girlie in the picture is a cutie btw)

Thanks so much, SheRae! Smile So, you were thinking like me in your Ragdoll search on wanted the smaller size. That's interesting then the way it turned out with your beautiful Dakota (I luv his pose in your signature pic) growing up to be such a big boy at 15 lbs.!

You mentioned his laid back personality.......that's one of the key factors on why I'm looking for this breed. Luv that trait.

My domestic longhaired male that passed away over a year ago was 13 lbs. He was quite handsome (a solid blue/gray), and I suspected when I adopted him as kitten that he would be a big boy, due to his very large paws. So, you made a great point about the size issue I originally made. I've already worked myself up to being okay with 12 lbs., from 10 lbs., so maybe by the weeks end I'll say 15 is fine. LOL

I was going with the smaller size wish, just to change things up a bit, but really what matters the most is their personality.

Fun chatting with you!!
In my opinion, you will be happier having a cat with the personality you love but a color that wasn't your first choice, rather than having a cat with your color of choice and possibly a personality that you weren't set on.

Hi Solo,

My question to you is...how can you tell the personality of a baby kitten? Especially when you just visit the cattery for a brief period of time?

Soon I will be going to choose between two 6 week old kittens and I am going to try my best to see and feel and sense which one I connect with. But I fear it will be like a reverse 'Sophie's Choice'-- reverse because it will be a very happy occasion!

Any comments from all you experts would be appreciated! Smile

Thanks ~ GeoVal
