Welcome Candice & Louie. I'm so glad you found us. I've heard it said Ragdolls can be more like dogs then cats. ie:following you and fetching. Max is my first Ragdoll and he teaches me something new everyday. Can't wait tell you can get a camera and we can see more of Louie. BTW I love his name.

Although a few Ragdolls are vocal, most are not. That is a Siamese trait. Siamese are also more likely to climb and jump than Ragdolls. Ragdolls are more likely to sit and imply you should lift them to where they want to be. ; )
I really don't believe that cats have to be sold with papers to mean they are purebred. I also don't feel that it matters as a pet. I have show dogs and I do sell all my dogs (pet and show) with papers, however I have bought cats with and without papers and, because I have never bought them to breed or show, it didn't matter to me. I bought Sebastian from a nice young couple with two ragdolls and if one of them wasn't 100% ragdoll I don't care (and both parents were altered after the litter). I met both of the parents and saw them with children and what mattered to me was the ragdoll personality. My Sebastian doesn't have papers, nor do I care. He has already been altered and will never be used for breeding.

I see dogs in rescue all the time and no one questions weather they are purebred or not. Same goes with the ragdoll rescue around here. I certainly don't condone "back yard breeders" (maybe they call it something different in cats) but they all need homes and if I had it to do over again I would buy Sebastian 100 more times! I just happened to be looking through the online ads (because I was looking for a home for a dog I got back from his abusive owner) and I saw an ad for Ragdolls. I begged, literally for days and on my birthday my BF said we could go look at them. I would not have brought him home had I not met his parents and fell in love. I went there wanting a girl but fell in love with him. Is he 100% ragdoll, I do believe he is but it doesn't matter to me. I don't need a piece of paper to prove I love him. I also would not have bought him if I thought that nice young couple was doing it for money and just breeding cats.

Do we have to prove our cats are purebred in order to be on this forum? Does it make our cat worth less in our hearts? I don't think so...

JMHO.

Christy & Sebastian
Thank you Christy & Sebastian for that post. I believe he is part ragdoll part siamese which makes him a mix but I dont really care because that means I get a lil of both breeds and although he gets into his share of trouble lol I still love him just the same and wouldnt give him up for the world. I do believe hes getting into a bit of trouble right now lol. Its a bit easier when he comes when you call otherwise oh my lol plus It was a good thing that I bought a collar with a bell on it so I could hear him when he moves around which works well. He didnt wake me up at 7:30am this mornin so I am very happy lol. Its too soon to tell but I think hes learning.
Sincerely,
Candice & Louie

What do they call a Siamese Ragdoll Mix?

Candice & Louie
Everyone is welcome here and you are exactly right that one wants a wonderful loving home for all cats. However, this is a Ragdoll board. That means it is important for people to understand how to get a Ragdoll if that is what they want.

One gets a Ragdoll by getting a cat with papers from a reputable breeder. One chooses to get a pedigreed cat because one wants greater predictability in getting the characteristics one seeks. One also gets a pedigreed cat because one wants to support the continued availability of that breed. If one promulgates confusion among Ragdolls, Ragdoll wannabes, BYB cats, mixes and moggies, then that does not serve the best interests of any of those cats.

One can get cats from BYBs and kitten mills and pet shops, but you are supporting that source for kittens. I think one is better getting a shelter cat or kitten or pedigreed cats. One cannot "rescue" a kitten from a kitten mill or pet shop. That rescue just means more of them are produced.

Obviously, once you have your pet, these details make absolutely no difference in the characteristics of that cat nor in how much you love and care for them. However, becoming educated about it should make a difference in the choices made the next time. Our first cat came from a pet store. He was the best cat in many respects of all the cats we have had. However, we would not get a pet store cat again because we do not want to support that.

A moggie or domestic. Sometimes "mixes" are described in this way just based on how the cat looks and as a shorthand when a picture is not at hand - even if there is really no mix of the breeds - and usually there is not. Shelters do this all the time - and for shelters you can add the desire to associate the cat with a popular breed to make him more attractive to some for rescue.

If I were describing my moggie cat, I would just say "seal point" or "longhaired mitted seal point" or whatever described what I was trying to describe rather than trying to string together breeds that might mix to produce my cat.
