This is hard because I'm a recovering book addict and it was very painful to purge my life of the books I had collected for years and years. Now, I have to think what I would buy, versus what I would keep forever and read multiple times.

A Heinlein collection
A William Faulkner collection
Stephen King's The Stand "M-o-o-n. That spells book."
Zelazny's Amber Series
Dr. Zhivago

Yes, the Twilight Series!
I'm currently on an ebay craze buying a bunch of old books for cheap. One of them was Old Yeller Smile I can't wait to read that one. I also just bought a hardcover copy of Night off ebay for a really good price. I'm going to start looking for Paradise Lost next, have never read it but always wanted too. I definitely understand being a book addict Janilee! I'd probably cry if I had to get rid of any of mine!
Once I buy a book it's for life.

Be careful, Matt. You start to run out of shelf space at 5000+. And, they're a nightmare to move.
Now, if I buy a new paperback, I carry it to the break room at work and leave it on a table with a note that says, "Help yourself." It is always gone within minutes. As far as I can tell, though. no one else does that, nor is mine brought back for someone else. I was hoping to start and informal exchange. I do still find those few I can't part with, but I'm very stern with myself about how sure I am I truly will read it again.

Oh this is a great question
Mine are in no particular order:

A message to Gatrcia by Elbert Hubbard
Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
Inkheart, Inkspell, Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke
and my favorite... Short stories by O Henry
Guess I'd best get Inkdeath next!

I second that and the LOTR!
William Morris: A Life for Our Time by Fiona MacCarthy
Victorian Lace Today by Jane Sowerby
The Incredible Journey by Sheila Burnford
The Diary of A Young Girl by Anne Frank
The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier
Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian
Mary Berry's Ultimate Cake Book

One Day by David Nicholls - not one I have read yet but my daughter Beth insisted that it went on my list as she has read it twice so far and says I have to read it next.

It was really hard to pick such a small number as I have 7 bookcases and endless piles of books around the house. Every so ofetn I attempt to sort the wheat from the chaff and take bags full to the charity shops but I inevitably bring at least 3 books back with me too ;0)
