I used to live in Northern Maine when I was going to college. There was a cat who at first I thought was a stray - seemed very malnourished and had a massive amount of flees. She was always around our house and crying outside our door and she did it to our neighbors as well. I felt so bad for her that I occasionally fed her and played with her but was weary due to her fleas. I found out that she belonged to one of our neighbors and let it go. Figured maybe she was just small, but I look back at it now and I am almost sure she was a ragdoll. She had gorgeous blue eyes and the softest coat (although a bit greasy and dirty). And of course she had the beautiful coloring of a blue colorpoint (mitted). I wanted to go rescue her or call the humane society on these people. How should I go about this? They leave her outside rain or shine - cold or hot. She is extremely infested with fleas and for possibly not fed properly. The girls who live in my old apartment say the situation has not changed. I live over 4 hours away...but I don't want to sit back and do nothing. The girls who live their now don't want to meddle.
Ugh, I would have to meddle. One approach might be to talk to the neighbors and see if they want to give her up. Fleas are easy to control with topical treatments, perhaps you would treat her before bringing her in. I personally could not stay out of it.. but that's just me.
Good luck, you have a kind heart.
Yep. I'm a meddler from way back. In fact, I could teach classes. LOL
I agree with Kitty. Talk to the neighbors and offer to take the cat in. Or, in a really brash show of testicular fortitude....cat nap it. Sounds as though poor thing could use the intervention.
ugh! I want to cat-nap because I have a feeling that the owners think they are "loving" owners. Especially since I heard my old landlord tell the new tenants (friends of mine) that the neighbors would be mad if anyone took her - possibly him! haha - I never bothered to check.
Mer - I think I am going to get into direct contact with my old landlord - find out who the exact owners are - possibly contact them -- then contact the ASPCA? I'm trying to do this in a legit way - I don't know if I could live with being a cat-napper! Imagine if someone did that to me or you! Oh wouldn't we just die! Granted - these people clearly are not like us at all.
