It is a big challenge in breeding. Some have buddies for cats when confinement is needed - and separation and confinement is needed - whole boys cannot be with whole girls, whole girls may not get along sometimes, often whole boys will not want other whole boys with them, sick cats and newborns need to be more isolated, ... One can rotate cats over the course of the day or week so that all have feline company with different cats - and of course the family spends time with all. It is not easy, but it can be very fulfilling too.
