Hi I'm new on here. Buddy had his second set of vacinations last Sat. I noticed a lump on his right hip a day later. It has not gone down. I contacted the vet about it. He said it usually will go away. I am worried about it. It is a small egg shape. It will move around. He is 6 months old. I wondered if anyone else on here has had that happen to their cat. I got Buddy 6 weeks ago. He had ear mites too when I got him. He had medication for that too twice to be sure their all gone. I have an appointment next Sat. for his lump. I hope it's not serious. Sad
Many times cats will develop a lump at the spot of the injection, in most cases it will go away, however, it is good to keep a watch on it to make sure. I think having it checked by the vet is a good idea if it is still there by next Saturday. Let's hope that it is gone by then!

Not to scare you but there is a chance for cats to develop Vaccine Associated Sarcoma at the site of a vaccine injection. That will create a lump at the site of the injection - however, usually it takes a while to deveop and is not immediate as his seems to be. But that is why it is a good idea to keep a watch and have it checked by a vet if it remains.

I love that photo of Buddy - he's gorgeous!!!
Are there any vaccinations given as a bolus? That would mean it was supposed to be there. Some thick sera are a little slow to be absorbed.

It should go away and having it checked as planned is a good idea. Rabies shots are more prone than most to have this kind of reaction and the location sounds like that shot. If it bothers, then you may help by holding warm compresses on the area. It cannot be a shot site cancer from the recent shot and if this is a kitten, then that kind of cancer is very unlikely.
Thank-you so much. I hope it will go away. I feel a little better now. If it dosn't go away I guess I will have to get it out. It could have been there after the first round of vac. 6 weeks ago. I never thought to check for lumps then.
There should have been only one shot in this time frame in the right rear leg - rabies. 3/1 shots should be given in the right front leg and any FeLV shot in the left rear leg. If he got a rabies shot at this visit, then that is the one that has a swelling, that does happen and you can expect the inflammation to go away.
When I took my puppy in for his rabies shot he developed a lump at the injection site that lasted for about two weeks before it was completely gone. I was worried about it, but it was not painful or bothersome to him, plus is being right where he got his shot I figured it was probably just a mild reaction. Sure enough, he was fine and it went away after about two weeks Smile Just keep an eye on it, if it becomes painful to your kitty or does not seem to be getting any smaller, then see a vet.
