My best friend, Johanna Parker is a fairly famous folk artist. She's been published in numerous of the major magazines over the years. I just found out that one of her creations is featured in Paula Deen's Spring magazine, held by Paula herself. I am so excited for Johanna! Johanna's Spring Chick candy container is nestled into the Easter basket. Go Jo!

That's really cool!!
Kitty,That real cute.
I'm a big fan of folk art I love it,use to be so popular around here but most of the little shops have went out of business.
and all thats left our the big stores and they just don't carry the small artist and uneek crafts.
It's been hard for artists to make a living at their craft, so sad. Johanna is fortunate, her originals sell for a fortune, and sell out within minutes. Her work is also reproduced by a few big wholesalers and is in gift shops nationwide. But not everyone is successful at that. I had my work reproduced by a few different wholesalers and it was a nightmare. Hopefully the economy will pick up soon and people will have more (or some at least) expendable income.

Her house is so adorable, this is a feature that Cottage Style magazine did:

Teresa, I live vicariously through my artist friends Smile.
I think thats great, Kitty!
That is wonderful! I love folk and primative arts and it is so great to see real people become so successful with their personal talents.
Nelson's boss is a ditzy little thing and never showed any artsy creativity until she sat down and, out of the blue, decided to paint pictures of her rescue cats "because my walls are bare and I don't know how to buy art." Then, one of her rescues died because she was so ill when Hope found her. She painted a picture to express her sadness. Next, she rescued a Pit puppy from the street and painted pictures for her vet's office to thank them for helping her out. Clients started asking for her work. Last week, she said she's working on three commissions at the same time at $100 each. Every penny of it goes to her vet account to care for the rescues that keep happening to her. You go, Hope!

Now THAT IS cool, I love to hear stories like hers. I keep thinking of painting Mocha, Bonkers and Neutrino (bf's cat) for my living room walls.. but there is no way I can do it now.

I think art is a great way to express all emotions, and that she is using the proceeds to pay for more rescues is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing her story!
Oh Kitty, I envy talented people.
My mother was such an artist! It must skip a generation b/c it passed right on down to my son.
Sad Didn't even slow down for me.
Kitty, I love her house so cute, I could live in a house like hers ,I wish I could do that.
I have no talent ,I'm only allowed to sing in the car with the windows up.... and can only draw stick peopleSad
