We have a family who spends weekends in a summer home a several hour drive away. The child who "owns" our kitten takes her each weekend and has from the start - and the kitten does fine - and it is important to the daughter. Most kittens (and cats) will adjust well to something that is at all regular. They are not stressed by the change because they are familiar with both places and all of the people and are comfortable at each. The same is true for a family who are snow birds and spend the Winter in Florida. The same are true for families where the owner spends time regularly with parents. We have many situations where there are multiple locations and the cats do just fine.

What one wants to avoid are singular trips that will be stressful.

One does have to make sure all of the family is geared to protecting the cat, whether they are in one household or two.
I think that it would be no different then what I do which is have my cats travel to the cottage every weekend - they treat it as their second home and since I started when they were very young they have adapted quite fine!
Wow, I want a cottage! Smile
If I lived in San Francisco I wouldn't want a cottage!
