I took Maia for her annual health check and booster and we were given a new type of worming treatment: Profender Spot-on. Has anyone any experience of using it? She hates the Spot-on flea treatment I give her (she cries and jumps about as if it really stings) so I'm really in two minds whether to give the Profender in the same way.
I worry about side-effects of any medication and hesitate about giving anything unless she actually does have worms. Do you all give worming treatments routinely? Is it possible to ask the vet to check stools for worms before giving it..... or am I just being an over-protective raggy-mum?
I've never heard of Profender and wonder if it is like the Revolution we have over here that treats for fleas, worms, parasites, ear mites, etc. It is a little scary putting the stuff on them, as I've found that it actually makes Smokes fur fall out in the area I put it on so I have to streak it down his back (per vet instructions).
I use the Revolution so I don't have to worry about worms (especially heart worms as we have tons of mosquitos). It makes it easier not to have to worry about it.
Hi Jen, I've heard of Profender but have never used it. We use the Revolution spot on ones which are supposed to treat both fleas and ring worms (I think). The cats don't really like it very much as they'd act a little funny stragith afterwards but usually come fine again after a few hours. We're supposed to use it once a month but I give our cats once every 1.5 or 2 months. Since they're mostly indoors it's unlikely that they'd get fleas and worms anyway. But we just use it as a precaution.
I do worm mine every 3 months as I have kids who handle them all the time and we have the dog who does go out. I always use Drontal tablets which you can get online. I use frontline for flea/tick prevention from April - Oct.
I would advise worming them Jan as I know they spend time in the garden and you can never be completely sure that another cat has not been in your garden. I have only used Drontal so I can't really advise about the Profender, sorry.
