Is it true that cats have to reach a certain point in maturity before catnip affects them? Solo is almost 10 months old now and doesn't care for catnip.
Does anyone have a kitten 10 months or older that goes crazy, like most cats, for catnip?!? Solo is my first kitten, and all my previous adult cats loved catnip.
I've heard that. I've tried giving catnip to my girls. Simone (6 years), doesn't seem to have any reaction, but Samantha (8 years) becomes like a mean drunk and starts attacking Simone for no reason, so I've quit giving it. They have catnip toys, and I've bought the catnip boogie mats and catnip spray to spray on the toys. Those seem to attract Samantha, but not Simone. As long as I don't let Samantha eat it, she's ok with it.
My boys LOVE catnip! They both go crazy and roll around on the ground its so funny.
Bonkers loves to eat it and roll in it, while Mocha just rolls in it. They both seem to get pretty jazzed up by it.
Dakota kind of seems disgusted by the smell of catnip--he won't even play with catnip toys.. I guess its not every cat's thing!!
I believe they have to be at least 16 weeks. From what I have read, some cats do not respond to it. Sasha get's mean and bites everything (including me) in her path. So, I don't ever give it to her. I have given it to the other two and they got aggressive as well just not as mush as Sasha. Some people believe that it is a drug for cats and you shouldn't give it at all. I believe that it's ok in moderation but I wouldn't do a daily, weekly, or probably even a monthly routine.
Both Gussie and Blue could take or leave catnip. But our grandson maine coon, Bunkie, becomes homicidal. He literally morphs into another cat called Psycho Kitty. I guess like anything else they all have different reactions to it.
I have heard that kittens don't react to catnip but I make mice and stuff them with stuffing mixed with dried catnip and have had as many as 6 six week old kittens climbing all over me when I'm stuffing them. Last time I made some I must have been wearing my arran cardigan and now, despite having washed the cardi at least 3 times since then, every time I wear it I have cats climbing on my lap chewing at the button band!!!
We have got some potted catnip that we bring indoors every now and then, but it is hit and miss as to whether they like it. Sometimes they love to tear it to bits and other days they couldn't be bothered. We did get some new toys made by Yeowww! Catnip Toys and Felix has gone mad! They love the smell. What I saw on the website is that most catnip toys are full of filler and cotton, whereas these toys are 100% full or organic catnip. I think it is the strength and quantity or pure catnip in these toys that have made them crazy.

Menou falls down on his back and pushes his head all along the floor. Bubba just rolls around for a bit. I do wonder about that stuff.
