Purr...even when they are not enjoying an event?...My Kizmet needs his nose cleaned daily and his eyes..and my Cazbah his eyes sometimes...Kizmet hates it it lol...he pushes me away...but keeps on purring....he meows with avoidence, yet still purrs, he clearly dislikes the situation but stills continues to purr, and when it is all done...... (this is also the same kittie that purrs as soon as he sees me or if he knows I am comming to see him purrs also!) lol.........he continues to clean away ( as cats do ) and continues to want food and runs and plays as if nothing happened.....I know cats can purr under stress, but I know these kitties are not stressed, more...."okay okay do what you gotta do...then let me continue to love you and YOU feed me"! LOL, Cazbah does not purr but just lays back and lets it happen, he knows whats comming, and just resigns to the fact, rather floppy I might add hehe.... bottom line for me, is simple...this wonderous breed, (my 2 anyway) and my angel Zylah....3 times now, I am witnessing and living, a truely layed back, loving and kind breed of cat IMO anywaySmile .... is it the breed one ponders....or the individual....just a thought Smile
All cats supposably do that, they use their purr to comfort themselves in bad situations. So purring isn't always a sign of happiness. I was surprised when I heard this but it's true - many neglected cats will purr even in their horrible times, it's to make them feel better.

My Jaz needs his nose cleaned daily too, the one pain of beauty for the bicolours, The annoyance of a pink nose needing cleaning! Kind of like how Danni said in the shoe fetish thread that beauty is pain in regards to high heels. Lol
LOL ain't that the truth!....indeed I am learning the bi-color and the reds...their noses need the wipe-wipe lol...and indeed I know the *purr* may not mean happiness...I am always saying...sorry...sorry....sorry fizbit...sorry...poor lil' mite...it just has to be done, I am as gentle as I can be.... and I am knowledgable of the way animals act when in pain, they function purely out of shock or discomfort, such as a horse I had encountered where I was grazing my horse at this place, she had a broken leg, yet continued to eat...purely out of shock ...however..... and the one pain of the beauty of bi-colors...rings so true! Smile I just hope they both know I am doing it to help them, not hurt themSmile They still love me so that's the main thing hehe..and I still say the breed IMO, plays a part Smile Oh and the breederSmile
Hi, yeah my Max purred on his first visit to the vet. The vet commented that all the while he was being examined, he was purring. I didn't know they do that under stress too. But my two are always purring. My Jasmine who has recently gone over the rainbow :-( started purring more and more towards the end, so I am thinking now that she was in distress but she really didn't show it.

Seems like Kizmet is a purring machine.... Hehehe... Not all ragdolls or cats purr all the time.. It depends on its personality... My Evo purrs more often than Sky... And usually they will purr when they see me early in the morning or when it is dinner time... LOL... Smile
Leo is my constant "purr-butt" as I call him. You can be doing anything (except giving him a bath!!!) and he'll be purring. Dex is much more stubborn and only purrs on his own time. He has this new game... I'll pick him up and give him cuddles, he'll get annoyed and jump down but then 2 seconds later I'll hear him meowing from the other room. I call him and call him and he won't come. When I get to the other room he's flat on his back, flopping all around, just trying to be cute to get my attention. THEN he'll be purring. He lays there begging for belly rubs until I give in. He's been doing it alot at night after I'm all cuddled up in my bed, but I still will hop out and give him some tummy rubs before going back to bed. He plays this "game" all the time now with me and my roommate. My boyfriend thinks its such a bad habit to be getting into, going to Dex only on his "beck and call." He just looks sooo cute when he does it!! Funny little stinker.
Some days the Gs purr alot. I find the purring comforting myself in addition to purring being comforting for them.
Mocha purrs even when I am petting Bonkers, he really gets revved up. I always thought it was odd!

Sorry to hear about Jasmine.

Cats purr for joy, comfort, and when scared. Most often from joy.
Perhaps Max enjoyed the vet visit?
