I've had my little kitty angel for a week now and I've come across a problem. My 6 lb Maltese is going in the litter box and helping herself to "kitty nuggets"

So I went out and bought a new litter box - one with a cover and a swinging door. That helped for a couple of days but then the temptation overcame her fear of crawling in that dark little hole. She has gone in there at least 2 more times that I know of for sure. I very seldom get mad at my pets but I scolded her severely but that hasn't made her stop. Now what? I know you can buy litter boxes that the kitty gets in from the top but will the kitty use it? That will be my 3rd litter box purchase in a week. I'd be most grateful to any suggestions you might have. Not only is this not acceptable because no dog who is eating kitty doo doo is going to lick my face but I'm concerned what the clumpable litter could do to her.
And thanks to Teresa K, here is a picture of the newest member of the family. We still haven't come up with a name but we are thinking of Luca.

Oh my gosh -- she's adorable!!!!
Sorry, can't help on the litter box problem -- I've heard dogs do that -- yuck!!
can you put a baby gate up in the room where her litter box is? with slots big enough so that your kitty can get through but not your puppy, this is what one of the ragdoll breeders I met with did for their dogs--she also bred king charles spaniels (included a picture)

Btw, your baby is so cute--certainly an angel!
The baby gate is a good idea. At least for now. However, the time will soon be here when the kitty will be bigger than the dog. One thing I'm very pleased about is how well our dog gets along with our new little kitty. The kitty came from a breeder that didn't have dogs and I know she was a little concerned about sending one of her babies off with someone who had a dog. She worried for nothing. They were playing together the first day. And now after a week, they are practically inseperatble. But that still doesn't mean Cricket can eat Luca's poo!!!
Ohhhh the kitty is so cute!!!!!! I want to steal him (her???) away from you

I don't have any advice about the litterbox issues though, sorry! Good luck!
I think the baby gate is a good idea..
What type of dog do you have??
Although Luca will probably look bigger than your dog, i think she will still be able to squeeze through a baby gate. (we just got our ragdoll shaved and he is very slim under all that fur)
My parents used a baby gate for the back door of their garage to keep the dog away from the cats food. Their cats are quite big and were still able to walk through.
Or she will learn to jump over it.... Dogs dont normally jump.
ps: your kitten is so adorable!!
You have an absolutely adorable kitten. Such a little sweetheart. I like the name Luca. Sorry I have no advice about litter box. My dog does it too and she's about 10 years old, so it hasn't hurt her. Just disgusting!!!
I'm useless. LOL I have zero advice on the litter box.
But, may I just say...that is one adorable kitten you've got ! WOW !!

True...although the breeder did have one adult female cat who could still fit through the baby gate (she may have been on the small side, but she was shaved so I couldn't tell---maybe 11-13 lbs. Dakota (my 10.5 lb male raggie) can fit into some pretty impressively tight places--sometimes I think that cats don't have any bones!
Oh my gosh what a cutie pie!!! My dogs both get along well with my Raggie also, but my chihuahua and Charlie are inseperable. I had to put a baby gate up in the bathroom entrance. I also went thru alot of litter boxes. Must admit swinging my leg over the entrance to go to the bathroom is not always fun but my cocker spaniel and chi cannot jump that gate but Charlie can. I also switched ( slowly) to worlds best kitty litter. It is corn and if the dogs do eat it ( they do get in there when the kids forget the gate), it is not harmfull to them at all and it is made from corn. Kitty poo is not on my list of a good diet for them but the gate has reduced that 85%.
Good luck and your kitty is very very pretty.
I am in the middle of toilet training ( city kitty) Charlie but that is a mess and he has fallen in a few times. Will let you know how that goes. My dogs are the reason I am trying this toilet training thing. Your not alone in this fight... Have faith....
BTW- Is that the Purple passion flower tree your cutie pie is sitting on? I just got the same one for Charlie for the holidays.
