I have 4 cats and a shih tzu who is not a nugget eater, but I do rescue and I almost always get one who loves the litterbox.

I put a babygate up, with small fence-like holes instead of the bars. Tiny kittens can climb over it no problem, and they actually enjoy the challenge. The adults and Maya (still a kitten) just jump over it without giving it much thought.
Isn't that just the sweetest face?Wink!!! I think Luca could jump over a baby gate to get to his box. No puppy could do that. Bubba jumped up onto our countertop as soon as we let him out of his carrier at 11 weeks.
I know that my niece's Maltese eats some disgusting things.. They use a deterrent system which blasts air at the cats when they go somewhere off limits. Kitchen counters, table, etc. I wonder if this would work to keep your Maltese out of the litter box. It only takes a few times and they get the message. Maltese are so smart! You would have to keep your kitty cat away when it was on though!!

Her cats and Maltese get along great! Here are a few pics Smile. These are the most spoiled animals I know Smile. The snowshoe Siamese she adopted from me when he was feral.

They are BEST friends, and play all the time. It is so cute!

Your kitten is about the cutest I have seen. What a little ball of fluff, I want him!! Have fun, love the name.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, my former next door neighbors have a Maltese who jumped his gate on the first day, unreal!
WOW!!!!! Luca is adorable. Forget Janilee, I need him!!!

We have a dog who insists on eating the cat poo, she's been doing it for four years now, ever since she moved in, and it doesn't seem to have done her any harm. Lucy (the dog) does eat less of it now that we have changed to a finer litter that sticks more but she still fetches it out and drops it on the floor in front of the tray. Personally I think I preferred it when she ate it!! Smile
KittyGlitter, I love the pictures. It looks like our house. It seems you can't have one on your lap without the other one. Our Maltese is so jealous she tries to get between my husband & me if we kiss. So of course if Luca is getting attention she has to be right there, too. But I am so happy they get along so well.

When we first got Luca, I was wondering why he didn't seem to have too much poo in the litter box. It took me a couple of days to figure out why Tongue

We ended up getting this litter box: http://www.petco.com/product/14467/Cleve...erbox.aspx and we absolutely love it! It has worked so well, kept the dog out, kept smell down, and the top acts as a cat mat that knocks off any litter stuck to Monkey's paws when he jumps out. Hope this helps! That is one gorgeous kitten!

-I like the idea of the Petco litter box with a top entry, but is it big enough for adults raggies? My dogs also love litterbox _tootsie rolls", " I am afraid my small dog might get stuck head-first in this litter box! And my Great Dane "puppy" (120 pounds at 8 months old!) might just plunk his head in!Big Grin
