Nature's Variety Issues Nationwide Voluntary Recall On Raw Frozen Chicken Diets With A "Best If Used By" Date Of 11/10/10

Nature’s Variety has initiated a voluntary recall of their Chicken Formula Raw Frozen Diet for dogs and cats with a “Best If Used By” date of 11/10/10 because these products may be contaminated with Salmonella.

I guess they did not get the word that Salmonella is not a risk to cats.
I didn't know that about Salmonella Jan.

My brother used to sneak in the closet and eat dog food when we were kids, perhaps they're worried about humans consuming it. Bleah, no thank you!
I doubt that explanation. ; )

In fact, cats and dogs get sick from these microbes as well.
Isn't cooking the meat nearly the same as feeding raw anyways? Is there a benefit at all to feeding raw meat to our pets? I believe in a naturalistic diet and to be honest have considered raw, I have to admit that feeding a pre made kibble or can of food is much easier Tongue Animals in the wild eat raw meat and do okay, it seems the domesticated pets have become more sensitive perhaps? I am not sure.
The life expectancy of an outdoor cat is about half that of an indoor cat. Why assume a fresh kill diet is not part of that increased risk?
I had an outdoor moggie who suffered severe mouth ulcers from eating Thrush (a type of bird) he had pink lips/gums with huge brown spots where the ulcers had been.
Thanks for keeping us posted on these types of things. Smile
