I enjoy seeing what everyone has named their pets. Such interesting names !! So....how did everyone chose their pets names. We always think that the names of our kids (furry and otherwise) should have some meaning.

Why did you chose their names? Is it their 'registered name'? Or do they have 2 different names, registered and 'everyday' ?

Sunny is actually" Mewlan Rooges Good Day, Sunshine". Her Mom is Penny Lane and her Dad is Lennon, so we went "Beatle". That and I ADORE the Beatles. We went through every Beatle song we knew and couldn't quite warm up to Prudence, or Elenore or Pam... After losing Fiona this last summer, we were so looking forward to having a joyful 'little girl' presence in our home, so Sunny it is !!

Our parrot Oliver was named after a character in one of my husbands favorite childhood books. Fiona was named after the character in "Shrek". She was short and 'stumpy', but lovely and gentle and very much a Princess. Just like the Fiona character.
We named Koa and Monkey (Monkeypod) after two types of native trees here in Hawaii Smile
My first cat Simon was already named when he came to me (long story). After he died I wanted a ragdoll that looked like him and both my husband and I agreed on Simone after Simon. Then when we decided to get two, I like alliteration and told my husband I wanted the names to "go together" so he said "like Simone and Samantha" - so Samantha got her name. As for Smoke, my husband named him too -- before Smoke was Snow (another stray we had to have put to sleep because of mouth cancer). So I guess we're stuck on "S"
I named Leo because he was orange like a lion so I called him Leo the Lion.

Dexter is named after the show Dexter. I became obsessed with the show for awhile and thought the name would be cute for a kitten. Also, I love nicknames so he's called Dex, Dexy etc.
Albus is named after Albus Dumbeldore (Harry Potter books) and Fawkes is named after Fawkes in Harry Potter (Albus Dumbeldore's loyal phoenix).
Hahahah this is going to sound lame:
I fell in love with the twilight books (before the hype) so i named him from that. My dad is also called Edward though.
My younger sister really wanted me to call him prickles cos she thought it was a cute name. Prickles seemed to suit him when he was a baby because his claws were so thin and prickly (probably like most kittens) so it ended up being "Edward-Prickles"
Although - his name has evolved into Pickles now.... and from this, he gets a few other nicknames: pick, pic-pic, picklesworth, mr picklesworth. It seems to suit him better because its alot more goofy.

Puss Puss actually came to us from Ben's ex-girlfriend. She was a stray that was found in the backyard and she didnt have a name, so Puss Puss just stuck.

Ben wants to go with a letter theme aswell, like Teresa has. He has always liked the name "Percival"
So i think our new kitten is going to be called Percy. (i'm not sure about it - but i sort of like the names because they are all goofy, ugly names Tongue )
so we'll have Pussa, Pickles and Percy. hahahaha.
Jake wasn't really named after anything. We went and visited him and his littermates with intention to get a girl, so a boys name was never thought about. That night the name just kept coming up when I thought of him, so Jake it was.

Jasper was named after Jasper from Twilight, I loved that it started with J too. I didn't particularily like Twilight but that is where I originally heard the name from. If we had of gotten a girl she would of been named Jasmine, so we kept with the 'Jaz' theme. Jaz is also very white, and was completely white when we got him. So a name like Casper (the ghost) fit well! My mum really wanted an Oscar, Olly or Oliver so that is where Oscar (full name Amberglade Olly Oscar) got his name. It was an agreement that she could name Oscar if I could name Jaz.Rolleyes
Nice thread Echo,

Hmmm.... how did we come up with Cello honestly I have not a clue it was a 2 hr drive we had alot of time to talk about names . Jim liked it cause it sounded Italian I liked it cause it was pretty,,Cello fits him perfect he loves music and when a musical show comes on tv he will sit and listen to it so cute.
Leyla, she was another little road trip 8hrs one way and a night in a hotel. We never came up with her name until after we had her, on the drive back,,We had lots of name picked, but Leyla we liked it was pretty, was one of Eric Clapton songs Layla,, musical,, went nice with Cello's name we just changed the spelling.

Looks like we have a musical theme going on .

Jeez Louise! You named your beautiful and perfect little angel after a serial killer????????
I watch the show, too, but I don't want him anywhere but on the tube.

Malachai got his name on the way home. For some reason, I'd not thought of many names before I got him. Wrapped in his baby blue blanket in the car, I looked down at his tiny sweet face and said, "Oh, you're Malachai? Okay, then." Nelson looked over and said, "Malachai? I like that." Done.
Angelo was another matter. He was unplanned. He came to us when the breeder went out of business. She called me and asked if I could take Malachai's half-brother. It was a couple of weeks before he started lying flat on his back with his fast-growing kitten tummy spread out. Nelson said, "He reminds me of my Uncle Angelo."
Kintu and Miles both had their names when we got them.
Nelson's Widget took awhile. She was supposed to be a foster and had been named Dots. The night I put a bow around her neck and handed her to Nelson as a Christmas gift, he became obsessed with naming her more appropriately. It only took me a few minutes to come up with her name. I said, "She's a Widget; a little gadget you don't know you need until you've got it. Then, you wonder how you did without it." It was perfect because Nelson had been trying very hard not to love her, and her personality is so quirky. She's the only pet we have who does not have a people name.
The dogs are Sophie and Ellie. Both are rescues. Sophie and her 3 Siblings had been called after cities-Dallas, Sydney,..forgot one....and Sophie was Aspen. We kept the foster name Ellie had been given.
