I finally got my first Ragdoll kitten. I did a lot of research and I am positive I found a reputable breeder. Now granted I've only had the kitten 2-1/2 days but he DOESN'T STOP MEOWING! I'm serious. He is either eating, sleeping or meowing. If I pick him up he purrs but continues to meow about every 5 seconds. This goes on for hours. I talked to the breeder yesterday and she thinks it is just because he misses his sister. I hope that is it and he gets over it. He is adorable and I love him but this constant meowing is beginning to drive me crazy. I took a week of vacation just so he wouldn't be lonely but I can hardly wait to go back to work.
This is my first Raggie and also my first kitten since I was a child so I could really use your help or advice. Does this sound normal to you?
I think someone else posted this same problem recently. Sounds like he's missing his mom and littermates and is calling for them. It will stop in time, but he may also just be a more vocal cat in the longrun too. I have one that's pretty vocal, and you do get used to it. Maybe buy and use a feliway diffuser in the room and see if that helps to calm him down. Hopefully some of our members who have had new kittens can help you out with ideas.
Ragdolls do not tend to be talkative, so it is likely he will slow this down. Once you figure out he is not in any distress, the talking will bother you much less.
I wish we understood meows....Sometimes I meow back at them and they seem to understand. lol. Seriously though, I hope your lil furbaby calms down for you.
Congrats on your new kitten!! I, too, wish that we could understand what our furkids are actually saying.
Awwww lol--Dakota was quite a loudmouth himself for the first couple of days. Remember, your kitten is just a baby and has never been away from his siblings, mother, and original people. He is probably calling for them, esspecially his mama and siblings. Also, he is not familiar with the surroundings, and the fact that he cannot find the things (toys, furniture, foodbowl, litterbox, etc) that he is used to may be frustrating to him. Don't worry, he will probably settle down in the next week or so--It only took Dakota 2 days but I know for others It has taken as long as a few weeks. Like Teresa's raggie, Dakota is inherently vocal, but not nearly as much as when we first brought him home. If thats the case, you will definatly get used to it, if your kitten turns out to be more on the vocal side.
I joined this forum seeking answers to the exact some question you just asked

Your kitten sounds like Solo' twin when I brought him home.
Try a feliway diffuser, calming sprays, and ignoring the meowing. Giving out attention for the meowing may teach your baby to meow when he wants something from you, and if you don't really like the talking then you definitely don't want to accidentally reward his efforts.
Others have suggested getting a second raggie, as they tend to do very well with another pet in the home.
If you think he is in distress and his period of adjustment takes longer than a week or two, or months, take him to a vet to see what he or she suggests.
Congrats on your new baby, I promise things will get better. Hang in there, and post pics soon!
completely normal. after all, he was taken away from everything that was familiar: his mommy, siblings, cozy home, and put in a place for all he knows is another planet! and he's still a lil guy! try to have some patience, and like others have suggested, once he gets used to everything, he will settle down. congrats on the new furbaby, and enjoy it while it lasts, cuz they def grow up faster than you think!
My Raggie, Mocha was adopted by me as a fully grown kitty. He was outdoors for quite awhile, and when I brought him into my apt. he meowed around the clock for a week or more. I was about to go out of my mind, then he got comfortable, and settled down. He is completely fine now.. I am glad that I stuck to my guns and did not listen to my family who told me that I had too many cats (2) for such a small apt! They are best friends now, and they are so happy!
Hang in there, it does get better

.
Congratulations on your new edition!
