Let me know if you can help, or know anyone who might help. They just need to get on their feet so they can withstand their time in the shelter.

. . . . . the Metro Animal Shelter in Tuscaloosa just got in 7 - 3 weeks old pups. The Mama has been killed. Two of the puppies are twice the size of the others . . . .soooo, I would imagine that there will be no problem in dividing them up. Bottle feeding would probably only be necessary for about another week or 10 days. Food will be provided. Then, they could eat soft food. If n[/color]obody can be found . . . well . . .
Please say you can help for a week. Time is of the essence, please let me know ASAP. I am not shirking my duty or I would take them . . .but I am fostering 2 pit bulls and 2 kittens, already.
Thank you, thank you for any help and suggestions you can offer.

Poor babies. I wish I could, but I'm nowhere close. Hope you can find help.
I would help in a heart beat. However, I don't think I am nearby enough to assist

Janilee, is there a general site to find foster opportunities in various areas? I'd love to get information like what you're posting for somewhere close to me. You post these things and it breaks my heart, mostly because I'm so far and can't help. I'm guessing stuff like this happens everywhere and I'd love to know opportunities to help transport/foster in my area (or rather soon to be area after I move).

That's wonderful, Jenny, to step up to help! I have no idea what the foster/transport situation is in HI because a few states are very careful about keeping up with strays and unaltered adult animals. There are even a couple of states that AL transports full vans of animals to because there are none to adopt. Thank goodness some places have their heads on straight even if their residents don't.
The first thing that comes to me, that I would try, is to go to
http://www.petfinder.org and do a search as if you were looking for a pet in HI. Check to see who is putting the animals up for adoption. That will tell you what organizations are out there and making an effort to find homes. Then, I'd try doing searches for those individual organizations to see if you can get a little info on them. If anything looks interesting, contact them and ask what kind of assistance is needed in your area. You can be independent and not associate yourself with only one organization if you get the word out that you will do transport, fostering, or wherevery your interest lies. Some organizations become possessive and want you only to do things for them when there might be animals in greater need with another group. You'd just have to follow your gut on that. Finally, look for a Humane Society or ASPCA group online and check them out for your area. Personally, if I find out the local official agencies are "kill shelters", I avoid them. The independents are rescuing from those as fast as you can and working outside the killing area is going to save you a step and some heartache.
I'd love to hear what your search turns up. I wish I knew more about HI, but I read you'll be heading for CA and there is LOTS to do there. Best Friends is a great organization and there is probably more than one associated group in CA.
Keep me posted and, if you think we're starting to bore everyone, PM me.

Thanks for the info Janilee! I'll definitely be looking into it

I'm looking forward to being in California. Hawaii is very particular about pets (I've honestly never seen a stray here, but we do have chickens running around all over the place). Even the Humane society has been practically empty every time I've gone there (they have a dog park there for we take Koa too so he can run around like a psycho with other dogs).
