Babette was spayed on Thursday morning last week and all went really well, she was sent home with 4 stitches. She has been wearing her lampshade collar all the time (although she HATES it). But last night she managed to get it off and by the time I got to her she had 3 of the 4 stitches removed the incision has completely scabbed over and is not bleeding or weeping, it just looks like a cut that has has scabbed over.

I rang the emergency vet when it happened and they told me its fine once the cut hasn't opened and to just keep the collar on her. This morning I rang the vet that did the surgery and they told me the same and not to worry at all but just to keep a close eye on it and if there is any change at all to bring her straight in.

She sleeps with us at night and during the day she is in a small room in the house with no furniture so she cant be jumping around. I have put the collar back on her and I am popping home from work every 2 hours to check her to make sure she still has it on.

Do you think the advice I have been given is ok? I don't want to have to put her back under anaesthetic unless completely necessary. All advice is really appreciated xxxx

If anything, they are being conservative and the risk is low at this point. You need to watch for the incision opening - not likely if it did not immediately open with the stitches being pulled - and for any signs of infection - also not likely.
