Oh no! Poor Oliver! What is going on with our boys??? I was trying to just care for Dexter's by myself before taking him to the vet but I could tell it was getting infected. It was really red and swollen and started to smell. :-/ Oliver's doesn't look red or anything so I would just keep an eye on it and make sure he's not limping or anything. I can tell Dexter's toe is painful to him when I touch it or try to wash it but he isn't limping or anything. The vet said he could give some pain meds if I thought he needed them but I didn't think he did. Although now that he has two hurt feet I just might take him up on the offer. I have to go back tonight to pick up more antibiotics, so I might just get the pain med too. Our poor little fellows!
[Image: IMG_0759.jpg] Here is a photo of the other side of the nail where it looks like there is a chunk out of it.
Oliver had an URI but seems to be doing great now. We had to wait to give him his shots until the antibiotic was complete.
Ouch that really does look painful!!! How lucky that you have a vet appointment today though. Let us know what the vet says!
Thanks the appointment is tomorrow and I will let you know what they say. I am sure it's just a healing process. It doesn't appear to look infected at all.
Poor Dexter and Oliver! I thought it was us girls that had more problems with our nails Smile I hope that they heal quickly and aren't causing too much pain for either of them.
Those poor little guys played so hard they ripped their claws out. Sometimes Bubba hangs by his and I have to get him loose. That's when I know he needs a trim. I'm always afraid he'll pull one off. It seems to me that a sore on their toe could become infected pretty easily from the litter box. Sad
OMG!! Poor little Dex and Oliver... Hope that the toes will heal up fast and the nails will grow back nicely.. Does anyone knows how long it takes for cats to grow back their nails?
Well, I showed it to the vet yesterday and she said it looked fine and that she thought he would take care of it on his own. Oliver weighed in at over 5# I think he is going to be a big boy. All went well and he is happy to be back home. Smile

So glad to hear that Deb! Sounds like he will be a big boy!

Dexter's toe still looks icky. It is completely black and really thick underneath (from dried blood the vet says). I keep irrigating it and trying to soak/clean it, but we all know how cats just LOVE water!! Smile I was kinda hoping it would just fall off and grow back good as new. I went to the vet yesterday to pick up his second course of antibiotics and the vet stopped me to ask how Dex was doing so I told him everything that was going on (pretty much got a free vet visit Big Grin). He suggests we keep on the antibiotics until next week and if it's not better come back and the toenail may have to be removed. He also thought it was so weird that all of the sudden he's missing one too... hmmm strange!

I just hope it gets better!!
I can't believe all these nail problems. Very strange. I hope that Dex's continues to heal up and they don't have to remove the nail. That sounds almost more painful!
