So their meetings have been going very well but the only thing that I can complain about is that Albus never wants to stop playing with Fawkes. Fawkes will lay down and relax and Albus will pounce on him and demand play time. I want them to play when they both want to, not when Albus says so. How do I stop this?

Albus also cried all night last night (has never done this), not so much meowing but he was making his moth-hunting sound. I had to get up in the middle of the night and play with him in the lounge until he settled down. Then this morning he was actually meowing right up in my face, the kids were up so I opened the door so he could go out. Then he lay in the doorway and kept meowing so I got up and walked into the hallway with him when he sprinted to Fawkes' room and meowed there, Fawkes put his paws under the door and meowed back.

They want to see eachother all the time but Fawkes gets really annoyed in the meetings when Albus doesn't leave him alone to chill out or explore (he is constantly pouncing on him, even when Fawkes is laying down and grooming himself). Fawkes will give in and play but then he wants to do his own thing again but Albus just wants to play and play and play. This is the reason their meetings aren't being extended to an hour- Albus won't leave him alone!!

What do I do?
Give the one who has had enough play a way to get away - a high spot with room only for one, etc. Do not overreact to how serious this is. Most cats can set these limits among themselves without any serious problems, even if it seems serious to you.

We had the extreme version of this with two older cats and a kitten. We got another kitten and the kittens played together and the older cats could stop playing when they wanted without being pestered.

Yes we put Fawkes up on the cat climber or pick Albus (the one who wants to play constantly) up and take him to the other side of the room but he just keeps coming back. I might be over-reacting becasue Albus is just so much bigger than Fawkes and to see him tap and jump on a sleeping tiny Fawkes is comical but a bit scary too. Although as the meetings go on Fawkes attacks Albus with more and more finesse and has actually scared Albus away a few times. He just never stops annoying Fawkes and I don't want Fawkes to feel aggravated by him. (poor Albus he's a little bit excited about his new friend)

Thank you for the advice, I guess that means that we just carry on with what we have been doing and see what develops in the meetings to come.
The drama is unfolding, good luck with this Matthew! I guess it's better than the alternative! I would think that eventually little Fawkes will let Albus know that he is fed-up. Come on Fawkes, let 'em have it!

That is intervening. Just let them work it out and let THEM seek respite from the other at the moment they decide they need it.
Aww poor little Fawkes! He is new and wants to explore and Albus having already explored every inch of your house just doesn't understand that. Once Fawkes is all settled in I am sure he will soon be the one constantly pouncing on Albus!!
I've got two posts in the health part that say what happened today. Very exciting, nothing to worry about now!
