Hello! I haven't been to this forum in a while but I have questions about my Ragdoll, Eloise's fur. She is a Seal Point Mitted Lynx and is 9 months old. I remember when I got her I asked the breeder about the shedding issues of a Ragdoll. She told me that they go thru fur stages and their hair changes over the first few years. I brush her very thoroughly every day and in the last month she is shedding more (not a huge amount but more like a regular long hair cat) and the fur on her belly is getting really wavy. Is this normal? At 9 months is she getting all new fur like the breeder suggested she would?

I appreciate any insight into this! Thank you!!
Both fur length and amount of shedding changes over time. It is not a straight line development, but a life cycle. As the cat gets colder, the coat tends to be longer and thicker. In warming periods, there tends to be more shedding. And then a cat can just blow coat, under stress or otherwise, and just seem to dump fur. (You can see a mini version of this with some cats who will shed heavily at a vet visit. ; ) )
thank you for that information! What about the wavy almost curly hair on her belly? Is that normal for a Ragdoll?

In regard to stress she is a very spoiled little girl so the shedding shouldn't be from that. Plus the weather has turned colder here (Southern California) so I thought her fur would maybe even get thicker!
Gently curly perhaps, but not curly that would matt. However, does it matter what is normal? If she has a characteristic, she has it. ; )
HAHA! No, it isn't that it matters as much as I happen to be a very curious person! She is my first Ragdoll and I want to learn as much as I can Shy
My Mocha is shedding like a madman, and he does have some curlies on his tum Smile. Just love the soft tummy hair!
Oh thank you! Please don't get me wrong. I would love my ELoise regardless of what breed of cat she is however, originally I purchased another kitten and when I went to meet her for the 1st time, I met Eloise and fell in love. I wanted her to be a playmate to the 1st kitty. The 1st kitty sadly died when she was getting fixed. I didn't opt for another kitty but kept my commitment to Eloise. The breeder I got her from has not updated her website since August and well, I have always been afraid that there could be soomething wrong with my girl. She is so very special to me Smile
My seal lynx-mitted also has very wavy hair on his belly, also we are located in Southern California. Did your cat come from Celtic-Ragdolls?
Indeed, this time of the year...summer argh...my whole house becomes white lol...well not so bad atm, as they are kittens, but my Zylah used to leave her presence known, be it chair, bed or anything that hair sticks too! lol Smile

Hi jack is 9 month old in 3 weeks, his hair on his tummy is very fluffy, curly, and full, his other fur is curly, fluffy around his neck, and is top coat is getting silk and longer., he sheds but not alot., there is no undercoat which really helps., He appears to be a blue seal point, but now his face is getting some tan around his seal markings, and his top coat is looking like light chocolate., who knows what he will turn out to be in 3 years., maybe since they are the same age we can share help..ps what do you feed your baby, I give jack 2 wet meals am and pm, of organic food, and I leave down a 1/3 cup of eukanuba ( no byproducts or wheat gluten for nibbling during the day and night, I think he now weighs close to 91/2 lbs, what does your baby weigh. i worry he will get to fatCool
