Malachai was my first. I got him as a tiny kitten. I only had him a week before he became seriously ill with an intussusception. The ER vet complimented me by saying she saved very few of these and Malachai lived because I acted very fast. I'm quite proud of that.
Angelo came next. He is Malachai's half-brother. The semi-breeder called me and said she couldn't continue breeding because it hurt too much to let them go. We'd become friends and, a few weeks after I adopted Malachai, she asked if I'd take Angelo to keep Malachai company. Thankfully, I'm a sucker and snatched him up.
Kintu happens to be the father of Malachai and Angelo. Turned out Kintu was extremely prolific in the southern half of the U.S. from Arizona to Georgia. He was born in Canada. Weird thing about him is that I became obsessed with him without ever seeing him. I have no idea why. I knew nothing about him except that the breeder said he was sweet, but small. I started doing searches for his name on the web...and found his pedigree! I kept going back there and doing searches. One day, a new hit came up. He was for sale! I told Nelson I had to have him, no matter what. Gotta love that man o' mine. Two days later we were in GA and found that precious boy alone, crouched in a tiny kitten carrier in an upstairs bedroom/junk room, of a rundown house where the breeder now lived with her new boyfriend. She was in the process of a divorce and the whole scene was seriously depressing. I was so afraid she'd change her mind before I got out of that house. We flew home, Kintu on the backseat in my lap. The next day, he was neutered. From that first moment in that dark little room, I've been enchanted with this beautiful and loving creature who never lays a clawed paw on anyone. But, he gives one mean head butt if you don't pet fast enough.
I e-mailed his breeder in Canada. For some reason, I thought she'd remember such a precious boy. She wouldn't believe me until I sent pictures. Then, she wrote to say that was her greatest reget-selling her sleeping buddy and love kitty. She had cried for an hour after seeing the pictures. I was so glad I had contacted her. She was convinced he had a good home.
Miles came by way of a baby picture of Malachai a friend stuck on her bulletin board in her restaurant. A woman called me and told me my friend reluctantly gave her my number because her situation was urgent. She had adopted two snauzers and they were beating him up, dragging him around by the scruff, slinging him around, and he did nothing to defend himself. Her family preferred the dogs and Miles was living alone on the basement. At the time, we had 11 animals-our own 7 and 4 rescuesfosters. Still, I said she could bring him to me and I would try to rehome him. She was at the door in 30 minutes. We talked awhile and it was clear she did love him, but her family didn't and they were keeping the dogs. She couldn't give him the life he deserved. Then, she told me his background and.......he's a great-grandchild of, you guessed it, Kintu! He was family, so I had to keep him. What a treasure he has turned out to be, ugly meow, and all. He's the true Raggie puppycat and hangs on anyone who walks in the door. He knows no fear-even sits and watches us vacuum! We have to pick him up and move him to finish the job.
That's my crew. Thanks for your patience with the long post, everyone. I'm a new member and couldn't post one without posting them all. Except.......I'll let Nelson choose a picture of his Widget I'll put in a separate post. She's a little polydactyl calico we fostered, along with 2 others that were seized in a raid.
Oh, yeah. To complete the zoo, we have to rescued Border Collies. All get along great. We're very lucky, 'cause ain't nobody sleeping outside.
