now i have an obsession with this series i love it so much!!!
i am so glad to be away from the teen versians of vampires with happily ever afters. the murder mystery of the first and second book i loved. im almost finished the second one. the maenad sounds scary as.

as for true blode the series. i have only watches two epidsodes and i like them. although they should have chosen someone hotter for bill (same as in the twilight series, sigh.). and it should definitely not be watched by anyyone young as it has a few saucy scenes...

i am generally loving this whole book series. anyone elses opinions welcome???
i've never read the books, but I've been watching the series on HBO from the very beginning and I love it. I also have a huge crush on Eric... or the actor who plays Eric... not sure which!
i heard eric is quite smokin' cant wait to see him lol
I don't usually go for blondes, but he's seriously hot!
sarah u should really read the book u can pick up a set here for like $50 which to me is cheap for 7 books. next one comes out in september. the books are great as is the tv series, i love it. so much better than twilight.
I really enjoyed the books too, as well as the TV series. Once I had read one I just had to get onto the next and so on. It's always sad when I get to the end of them and the next book is not out yet. I get so impatient. If you liked those books you may enjoy Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series. There are about eleven books and she is still writing. I couldn't put them down and some of the books are quite long.
whats anita blake about kathryn
Well basically it follows the story of a woman called Anita Blake who is a necromancer and a vampire hunter, which turns out to be a person that can raise the dead. She works in a business that hires out necromancers to ordinary people so that they can do things like raise dead family members to clear up disputed wills etc but they are like zombies and only able to answer very simple questions and can only be animated for a short period of time usually depending on the skill of the necromancer. She is also one of a few licensed vampire hunters that can execute vampires that have been deemed to break the law.

The setting is modern day where vampires are out in the real world, a bit like the Sookie Stackhouse series, and each city or region has a vampire that is the called the Master of the City. In the later books she forms a relationship with the one in her area called Jean Claude. it gets pretty steamy in some of the books! There are also other creatures in the series starting out with werewolfs and then they introduce were-animals. So people that can turn into were-panthers, were-leopards etc. The themes tend to run along her helping police solve supernatural crimes, there is a special police department to deal with the modern world creatures, and her relationship with Jean Claude and the leader of the local werewolf pack Richard.

Once I started reading I couldn't put it down and another book is due out on Tuesday, making about 11 in total. After reading them I was surprised about the similarities between these books and the Twilight series. It is definitely more adult than Twilight and there is a lot of detail. I have seen the first three books available in one as a special package so that will definitely give you a taste of the series. Well worth a read.
Me too sister friend!!!Big Grin
I blew through the books last March when my sister introduced me to them. Then caught up with the series on HBO. It took me awhile to adjust to the characters they had chosen, as I had different images pictured in my mind. I pictured Sookie a bit different. I agree, the character they picked for Bill - a nice enough looking fellow, but not who I envisioned. Now Eric.....I'd like to get me some Eric! Absolutely!!! The series doesn't follow the books exactly, but it's pretty good. The whole Mary Ann thing had a different twist. Hoping the Sookie with you- know- who ladies (no spoilers here) follows through with the tv series. It is definitely not for young eyes. Some characters don't have their clothes on much!Tongue

I believe it was you who put this in the "what are you reading" thread and I reserved one at the library to try. If I get hooked, I'm going to take a bunch with me on my cruise in March!!
I think it was Jenny that mentioned she was reading them in the what everyone is reading thread. If you do like the first book and grab some more for your cruise, be careful not to miss the cruise and spend it reading. I would stay up late at night reading them even though I had to work the next day, and once I spent a whole Saturday just reading one of the books. Very addictive!
