Barney has been at home with us since Saturday midday and it is now Tuesday but we haven't seen him use the litter tray for poop. He has quite happily played in the litter and flung it all over the floor in the process, and is happy to use it for urine. I am wondering if this is something to do with being in a new house with new cats? He has had his own litter box in his own room that he has never used, prefering the main one with the other cats. In light of this would there be any point in putting him in a room with his preferred litter tray and leaving him in there for 10 minutes or so to give him the privacy to use it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I wonder if he might be a little plugged up, from the stress of his new environment? I am certainly no expert. Hope he goes soon, it's got to come out eventually!
Too true! I don't really want to give him any laxative because I know how distressed ragdolls get if they end up with diarrhoea. He is certainly eating enough, so it is not a lack of food. He is eating more the Ava and Felix!
Too soon to be worried. You do not mention if he was not eating at first and is now. That would explain it. It will not hurt him to feed him a little bit of butter.
Reminds me of Julie & Julia, there's nothing that can't be helped with a little butter, ha ha!

Good luck!
Thanks Jan. He was eating up until yesterday when he wasn't interested in the same food as the others. Hubby has found that he doesn't like to eat with the other cats yet. He apparently scoffed down two saucers of minced beef a few hours ago in the privacy of our bedroom. Thanks for the suggestion of butter. I will give him until tomorrow before we start intervening I think.
I am no expert, but I know when my lil' guy came home I had the same concerns. I left him alone with food and water and a litter box, until he went number 1's and 2's. I also spent alot of time with him during the night, well early hours of the morning, played with him, got him relaxed...and waited...and when he finally jumped in...you could have heard a pin drop LOL...I was motionless...and then when he was done I praised him alot, you know the high pitched...good boy! lol..but as Jane has said, depends on his appetite also. My lil' guy did not eat for probably 12 hours, upon arrival, but the after that...all good to go! I am sure all will be fine KathrynSmile
Sage always stops #2 every time we relocate him. I usually increase his wet food and decrease his dry and also give him a little Petromalt after a couple of days.
One of the Gs did #2 the night I brought them home, then did not do #2 again for around a couple of days. The other G did not do #2 for a day. Now, they are both pooping machines!
Thank you all for the reassurances! To my delight he decided this morning was the right time and boy did he have an audience! His big brother had just used the litter box, I scooped it, and then Barney jumped in and started doing his digging and playing game. Litter started flying everywhere and just when I was about to lift him out, assuming he was just playing, he decided to go. I was so proud! Here I was standing there at 5.30 in the morning praising this little rascal for using the litter box. Both Ava and Felix were sitting nearby, initially interested by the flying litter, Felix so much so that he had to come up and see what he was doing. So then of course Ava had to use the box as well to prove that she was a clever girl. After all of the fuss Barney ran back in there and then flew out litter trailing behind him down the hall. My hubby thinks that all of the praise may have encouraged him to dart in and out of the litter box like a game. I think Barney missed which part I was praising him about!
