So I have a bit of a problem. Sad

I have one maiden queen who I've attempted to breed three times, and I still don't think she's pregnant. Sad She's 1 1/2 years old, in good shape and weight, no obvious health concerns. In watching her, I think she's rolling before my male can "finish his business." How common is this, particularly in first time queens? I've spoken to some breeders who've suggested that since she's young, she may just not be figuring out what to do yet, and to give her time. I think their advice is sound. At what point do I begin looking at other possible factors? Is there a point at which I give up hope entirely? Sad

Thanks in advance for any input. Smile

It's very common. You might have to prevent "the rollover" by holding her shoulders and keep her in an upright crouched position.
How experienced is the boy?

My boys will just roll with the girl, but they won't let go until the deed is done
This is usually a bigger problem when both are inexperienced. Is the male experienced? Does she scream and roll after mating? If so, he is mating her. I would not give up on a queen with just six months of attempts to breed.
I'm glad (and NOT glad at the same time, LOL) to hear this is relatively common and that I'm not the worst cat breeder ever. Wink

The male is proven, which makes it more frusterating. Sad With my proven queen, it didn't seem to take long at all, and I've got it all - the scream, she goes after him, and then "spazzes out" running like crazy, rolling, and licking herself. With this girl, it's like he's trying for 1/2 hour. She doesn't scream and go after him like my proven queen. It's almost like he gives up hope. Sad

After six months of attempted breedings with no success, would you have her evaluated, or just keep trying?
Keep trying. The male has to figure it out. Do not put her in until she is in hard heat and is presenting at that moment. (There is nothing to evaluate if she is not being mated, which she is not. There is no point in letting him keep attempting. Take her out and put her back in an hour or so. Give them good footing, either on a carpet or towel.)
Hi Debbie,

Don't give up. We just went through this same thing with one of our girls, and we have a happy ending!!Smile
She did scream and roll, but would only accept the male 2-3 times, and was not getting pregnant. It took 4 attempts, but she did get pregnant and close to 2 years old. I agree with Jan, wait until she is in a very hard heat cycle. I think that was my biggest problem, was rushing to put her with a male, when she began to call. When I waited, she accepted the male many times and did get pregnant!
Best Wishes!!

Thanks so much for the input everyone!!! I'll keep everyone updated as to her status. Smile
Can't hurry love!

Some girls were ready by 1 year of age and other by 1.5+ years of age.
Boys by 1 year of age but I heard that can vary also from 10 months to 2+ years.
