Hi again,
Well on Friday I will be taking Ava and Felix into the vet to be desexed. I am hoping I don't turn into a teary mess when I have to leave them there. My plan was to take the day off work, but I ended up thinking that I would just mope around at home worrying about them every minute, so going into work seems like the quickest way to get form dropping off to picking up in the afternoon!

Can anyone offer any tips on what to expect? The vet is really great. He actually knows what a ragdoll is! Sounds silly but the three vets we saw prior to him just thought they were cute kittens. He is hoping to not use stitches on Ava, as this is his preferred way for females. I just know I am going to feel so bad when they come home and they are sleepy and tired. I can almost see their little blue eyes starring at me asking why I inflicted such pain on them! I have even gone so far as to think that they will probably think I am bundling them off to a new home if their half brother arrives before Friday and then they get a trip in a cage the next day!

You can all probably tell that I am not really rational about the whole thing! I know it is for their own good, but I hate to think of hurting them. I must get some new pictures up for everyone to see how they have grown. That will cheer me up!
I think it is scary when you have to do something like that and can't explain it to them. However, kittens seem to rebound very quickly. Let us know how they get on.
Our boys were up and at it by the evening but Momma here would say no you can not jump off that. The next day they were totally themselves. The females not sure about as we tend to go with males.

Prayers are with them and you of course.
Kathryn,

I am going to be going through the same thing Wednesday. My load at work is pretty light so I am taking a couple of days off. Not until the vet told me did I know that Gabby will have to spend the night at the animal hospital. That will be the first time that she and Gabriel have been seperated for a significant period of time since they were born. I am scared too. Yet, I am also fortunate that my vet is familiar with Raggies. I wonder if it will change their behavior. Just hope that they forgive Mommy for this!
. .
As far as practicalities go, Felix will come back to you looking no different other than maybe a tiny bit sleepy but that won't last long. Ava may have a shaved patch on her side and a small incision scar and again may be a little tired. Both of them will need to be watched to make sure they don't lick the incision sites and you may need a collar to prevent this. The vet will probably tell you to keep them quiet and prevent them jumping - impossible!! If they feel well enough to jump and play there's no way you will stop them. Any signs that anything at all has been done will be short-lived and you really shouldn't worry - I know, it's easy to say but not so easy to do. Don't be hard on yourself, you trust your vet and you are doing this because you love them!! Smile
Thanks for giving me an idea of what to expect. I have just droped them off at the vets a few hours ago and we should be picking them up this afternoon. Thankfully their new little brother's arrival has been delayed until tomorrow which should give them some time to recover in peace. The weather has also been kind today and given us on 33 degrees, although it is going up to 42 degrees on Sunday! They will be comfortable at home in the air con though.

Then we have to go through this again with the little bi-colour boy in about a month. The breeder was going to get him desexed now (3 months) but her vet has introduced a new policy of not desexing kittens until 4 months because they have lost a few lately because of the anaesthetic they are enforced to use under government policy. Not really sure what it all means, but I am not in favour of desexing them early anyway and being a male it will be much easier on him. Will keep everyone updated on the recover and introduction of Leo. Yes he has a name now!
Hope all goes well for Felix and Ava. I know you're anxious to get them back home. Be sure to post back after they get home and let us know.

Congrats on Leo - don't forget the pics of him (love the name) - and we need new pics of Felix and Ava too Smile
I am sure all will go wellSmile I have had the speauter done a few times, and as much as I worried, it works out in the endSmile Kittens indeed bounce back Really well! Let us know how it all wentSmile
