Hello fellow cat lovers!

I have a question about the possible breed of my wonderful adopted cat. He showed up at my door, starving, his fur was awful and he was skin and bone. He was immediately trusting, and began following my children all over the yard like a puppy dog. We started feeding him as soon as he showed up, and he immediately adopted us. We have since sold our big (6 bedroom) house and moved to a small 2 bedroom apartment with our indoor cat, Bonkers. Of course we had to take our stray, named Mocha. He has adapted amazingly well, and after some initial stress, he and Bonkers are fast friends. Mocha seems to have all of the same characteristics and appearance of a Ragdoll. If he isn't lying on the floor next to one of my kids while they are playing, he is nearby. I'll show you some before and after pictures here:

Mocha when he first showed up, see his spine and malnourished fur.. it was so sad.

Now he is filled out and happy

Do you think he might be a Ragdoll? He sure is precious, and very floppy. We LOVE him! Here is a video of him getting treats from my daughter. He always jumps up and holds our hands tightly with his paws when the Temptations are offered, it's so adorable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Axmaqg2EnSU.

Thank you so much for your time,
Probably not a purebred...but wow what a beauty!! You certainly got yourself one pretty kitty there, I think Mocha is just lovely (but ask anyone on here, I'm a total sap when it comes to the seal bicolor look!). A big hug for you for rescuing the poor thing and helping achieve the beauty he is now.
Was he neutered already by any chance when you found him? He does resemble a seal bi-color, but without papers, it's impossible to tell if a cat is really a ragdoll because just every day cats can have the coloring, build and temperament of a ragdoll. But boy, did he luck up when he got to you!! It's sad how sad he was which almost makes me think that he could have been an indoor cat at one time that got lost or something and had no idea how to fend for itself. If he was neutered when you found him, then he could be a lost ragdoll that you've found -- but once again, it really would be impossible to know unless you had papers for him.

However...all that said, please stay around, you're more than welcome.
Thank you so much Ladies! You have made me feel very welcome here.

Mocha is neutered, and was absolutely a VERY pampered house cat at one point. When he first showed up, I didn't let him stay inside because I needed to make sure he did not have fleas or parasites. He actually was flea free, but I did have to treat him for tape worms. He would cry and cry at the door and try to push his way inside whenever we opened it, it broke my heart. He turned up his nose at the dry food and would hold out for the canned. I made a temporary home for him in our big insulated dog house, with shavings and blankets so he stayed warm and dry. As soon as we moved, he became a full time indoor cat. He meowed non stop for several days, mostly because he was frightened.. but now he is a fat happy boy. I spent a bit of money on pheromones, calming treats, catnip, toys.. there was some territorial marking at first, but thanks to the calming spray and treats the cats are now friends, in fact they wake me up at night tearing all over the apt.

He has the softest cashmere like fur, I've never felt anything like it. When we brush him, he jumps up and pulls the brush down to his face and holds it there so he can rub his face on it. He is a blessing to me and my 2 young children. Leaving the big house, divorce, etc.. the best decision we ever made was to keep him. Who could leave him?

Blessings to you!
Kitty
Was he neutered when you got him, or did you have him neutered? It sounds like there could be a possibility that he really is a ragdoll if neutered before you found him. We had another member one time that found a raggie outside that he later found was pedigreed but had been turned out by a neighbor family because she would spray or meow - can't remember which. I'm so glad that you found him. Please stay around and post more pics (of both of your cats, we also have a gallery to showcase other pets that aren't raggies).
By the way...if you use a afterwards, then the pic will show up in the post Smile
Hi Teresa,

He was already neutered but there is a mystery. He is missing the very tip of one ear. I know the vets do that when they neuter feral cats. But if a cat can be picked up, it is not considered feral and does not qualify for the free programs. I think he may have lost it in a fight, unfortunately I'll never know. He was on his own for awhile judging by his condition.

Thank you for the advice about the photos. It's been awhile since I've been on a forum! Here is one of Bonkers checking out Mocha. This was when we were preparing for the move.

I have thought of having Mocha scanned for a microchip, but I am afraid I'll find he has a previous owner, sighhhhhh.. I could never give him up.. it would break our hearts.
Oh he's so sweet. I love to see how well you've taken care of him from his "before and after" pictures. He's so handsome
Thank You Linda! He makes himself very available it's fun to brush him and keep his coat gorgeous. Bonkers hides and sleeps all day, Mocha is a people cat! Now it's play time, Bonkers just got up.. they'll play on and off all night. I finally decided to sleep with earplugs last night!

This is a pic of Mocha yawning, a friend of mine called him wolf man cat. I don't think I've ever seen teeth like his, good thing he's so sweet!

Hi there and welcome to the forum. You have just brought tears to my eyes, I get so emotional over stories like that. You have done an amazing job with Mocha and he looks and sounds like a ragdoll to me. It sounds as if you have been through a rather emotional time too, going from a 6 bed house to an apartment and a divorce you and the kids probably need Mocha and Bonkers more than ever. I totally understand you not wanting Mocha to be scanned, but I think I would have to for peace of mind. If he was owned and loved the previous owners would be very upset fearing the worst. You wouldn't necessarily have to return him, just write to them explaining that Mocha is happy and healthy, just to give them peace of mind too. By the way Bonkers looks lovely too, is he a pedigree, he looks very large?

My name is Louise and I have a seal tortie point ragdoll called Coco and will hopefully be getting a new blue point ragdoll, Axl in Feb.
Teresa, how could anyone turn any animal out? Here in CA so many people are forced to give up their animals due to foreclosure, and downsizing. Some people are even turning their horses loose in hopes that someone will adopt them. That stray Raggie was fortunate to be found by a gentle hearted person.. what were the chances that it would have a pedigree!

Louise, I think you are right. I need to ave him scanned (that sounds so funny) he needs a cat scan! I could never give him up, but I could let his previous people that he is safe and happy. You sound like me, I cry when I watch Animal Cops but when there are happy endings it's worth it. Is it Axle Rose that you are adopting? I seem to recall that name from a previous post somewhere. Love that name!
Aiyeeeeee.. I need to proofread my comments!
