When I took the Gs to the vet to talk about getting them speutered, the vet commented that Gabby's coat did not look as good as Gabriel's. She recommended that instead of brushing her every other day, brush her every day. The vet also recommended that I get a brush with longer bristles for Gabby since her coat appears to be thicker than Gabriel's coat. In addition, Gabby's coat is not as soft as Gabriel's. The vet did say that she did not believe that there is anything medically wrong with Gabby (the vet did examine her). The vet said that she believes that this is just a sign that Gabby is developmentally ahead of Gabriel. So, I got a brush with longer bristles that have the little rubber ends on the bristles. I will brush Gabby everyday and continue to just brush Gabriel every other day. Is there anything else that I need to be doing?
Gabby's coat sounds alot like Simone's - thick and dense, whereas Samantha's is fine and bunny like. I swear, regardless of how much I brush Simone, she always looks like she's having a bad hair day.

That is the same as Gabby! Does Simone shed more than Samantha?
Ragdolls do have different length coats as well as different textures.
Some are bunny soft and others a bit coarser. Most of this is genetic.
Seasonal changes can affect coats and shedding amounts also.

Belle has the soft bunny like fur and doesn't appear to shed much whereas Dusty has the longer coarser coat and shed's for the UK.
OH yes, Simone sheds MUCH more than Samantha - and more comes out when I brush her too.
We have all different coats here, short and soft, short and coarse, long and silky, long and scraggy, long and as soft as a cloud. Some shed and some don't, some knot and some don't. If Gabby's fur is dense then as she gets older you may need to watch out for knots in the 'arm pits' and tops of legs. A good grooming tool for all coats I find is the Zoom Groom. It removes a lot of loose fur but also massages and all of my cats love it!
What about when they're still kittens? Dexter has a long fluffy coat that is bunny soft. I brush him often (usually everyday) and I hardly ever get anything off him. The fur on his tail is more coarse, and if I ever get any fur on the brush it's from his tail. Do they start shedding alot more as adults? Dexter is almost 9 months old..
Mine tend to shed more with the seasons as they get older but none of them have really shed much as kittens. Casper didn't get his first knots until he was almost 3 years old so I think this demonstrates how their coats can continue to change as they mature.
