I was told that ragdolls were not the best jumpers?...I never really thought about it. My last girl seemed to be able to jump fine, like you know onto the couch and beds etc, my new lil' guy he is almost 12 weeks and I know this is still young, but I have 4 other cats and I do not recall them avoiding jumping this much LOL, and I laugh to myself when I see him trying to wrestle himself up onto things, like bed, couch and well, anything that is worth an effort. I keep telling him to run and leap! but he just hovers at the bottom trying to find a good spot to latch onto lol...anyone have any experience similar?
Give it time. They do have the ability to jump, but your little guy must be a little scared of it right now, LOL!! I'm sure he'll get the hang of it.
Hi,
Charlie is almost 8 months and is just now getting better at jumping. He was very clutsy and he would fall just trying to do the littlest jump. He would try to jump up onto the dining room chairs and not even make it at first. It is quite funny to watch how akward he is. He is getting better though. I thought I had a clumsy cat - good to know that he is not alone.
Teddy will be 8 months old on the 7th and he is a jumping machine. I think he read the mountain goat manual instead of the ragdoll manual. He thinks he needs to be on top of everything!! I tell him feet are for walking all the time!!
My Sassy jumps on the counter, to the top of the fridge, to the cabinet tops, and then to the shelves above them that are about 15 feet off the ground...
Dexter definitely does his fair share of jumping especially now that he has a cat tree! But he is still pretty clumsy... he doesn't have good judgement of distance! He'll take a running leap and land on the ground instead of the table/chair/counter that he meant to land on, haha. He is getting better though.
I've had a jumper and a non-jumper (half-brothers, same breeder). I think it's about what they're exposed to as kittens - the skills they learn early in life on the cat trees and household things they experiment on.
The neighbouring Maine Coons were kept inside for their first six months and when they started to explore outside they couldn't balance on a fence.
Yeah, I think he just isn't confident yet, bless him. Miss Jad, indeed your not alone lol, thanks guys for your responces

I heard the breed in General doesn't jump as much as others but I also believe that individual cats of a breed will decide to jump or not to, sometimes you can encourage or discourage that during growing process, but also I hear the cats take the personality of the Sire.
Blossom loves to jump and can clear a 6ft gap easily at almost 5 months. When playing with Da Bird she can jump about 4 ft high from a standstill but tends to land on one of the others!! The other side of the coin is Alfie, the only time he jumps is shen he wants to get on the sofa but now there's a do-nut bed on the floor he rarely even bothers to do that.
