Monica came to live with us in June 2008 as a 16 year old. She arrived undernourished and suffering from senile dementia with very bad litter habits and a terrible smell.
Monica's story started in December 2000 when she was found wandering the streets of Glasgow and she was taken into the care of a rescue society. Within a couple of months Monica moved to the care of the UKRCC, a dedicated ragdoll rescue charity. Monica was rehomed by the UKRCC but after a couple of years her new owner developed a brain tumour and after surgery couldn't stand the smell of Monica because of damage to her olfactory gland. Monica was rehomed to a friend but was eventually found roaming the streets again. The charity asked for a long term foster home for Monica and that was us.
While she was with us Monica spent most of her time in her own room, Coal visited her every evening when Stan went in to feed her, and occasionally she came out for a stroll along the landing.
Poor Monica had a very sensitive tummy and we spent months trying to find a food that she willingly ate that didn't give her sickness and diaorrhea. The only thing we came up with was a store brand kitten food. Unfortunately kitten food is high in protein and we knew there was a risk of kidney damage in the future but she did gain weight and begin to look more the beautiful ragdoll she was born to be.
Recently Monica had been losing weight, refusing to eat and not grooming herself so we took her to the vets. Following blood and urine samples she was found to have failing kidneys and bacteria in her bladder. Despite a special diet and anti-biotics when I took Monica back to the vets today she had lost more weight and was struggling to stand. At 1.9kg and approximately 17 years old I made the decision that it wasn't fair to prolong her life further. At 12:15 she was put to sleep.
Goodnight sweet girl, you were loved at the end of your life, I hope you knew it.

My heart is with you. I know what it feels like to lose that special someone. All I can say is I know she is welcomed to Rainbow Bridge along with many of our pets that went this year or years earlier.

Take time to grieve as if you have any others they will need time to grieve also and above all know we are here for you and you are not alone.

I am so so sorry.

She was fortunate to have you in her life.
I'm sorry for your loss, Jane. Thank you for taking Monica in and giving her a safe place for her remaining years. She is resting peacefully now. That's a comfort but I know it doesn't help the missing her part. I'm still dealing with that part myself. I'll be praying for you & your family. Teddy & I send you lots of hugs.
Jane, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are wonderful people to have taken Monica in. I am sure that during her last year she knew that she was loved and cared for like she had not been before.
I'm so sorry, but I know that Monica is in a better place now. You were so kind to give her restful and loved senior years when no one else wanted her. Hugs to you for your kindness.
