I just caught Winston in the act of vomiting. There was another incident about 2.5 weeks ago and one about a week ago, but I didn't see who did it. I don't know if Winston did all 3. All 3 were composed of partially digested food (but loose, not like those hairball vomits which are so dense that they almost look like feces in shape), and I haven't noticed any other symptoms. Before this, it had been several months since the last vomiting incident from either of them. Winston seems otherwise fine, and in fact is now engaged in a wrestling/grooming session with Oliver. Does anyone else have any experience with this, and should I call the vet (the emergency vet since it's a Sunday night) or hold off and see how he does? The boys are going in for their annual checkup and vaccinations after Thanksgiving, so either way I'm planning on mentioning it to the vet then...
edit: additional info-- it had been about 4 hours since his last meal, so it couldn't have been an issue of eating too fast or else he would have thrown up much earlier
Cats vomit easily. It is the way they clear hairballs and undigestible or problematic things swallowed. I would mention it to the vet, but with no signs of discomfort and it being infrequent, I would not make a special vet visit. (If there were identifiable chunks of food, then I would doubt it was that long since eating.)
thanks Jan! it was actually all "mush" rather than identifiable chunks of kibble, but it still smelled vaguely like cat food, which is why I said it was partially digested food... but regardless, it's definitely good to know that the vomiting is probably not a big concern (though I'll keep an eye out). Thanks!!!
When Solo had his leg injury he had also vomited a couple of times. I mentioned it to the vet and he just brushed that off to the side. I guess cats vomiting is pretty common... as long as it isn't a funny color like green or something it is probably ok. Also as long as your cats are eating well and acting normal all is most likely well.

A vet check will give you peace of mind though f that is what you are looking for!
Hi Sarah,

Something you may want to watch for is a food intolerance. If Winston starts to throw up more frequently and it's not fur ball related, he might have a sensitivity to a certain food. I didn't realize this, but if a cat eats the same food all of the time (or most of the time), it can actually create a sensitivity to that food to the point they can't eat it anymore. So if possible, variety might help Winston if he has a sensitive tummy. I know that's hard to accomplish if you have a picky eater. Wink

Take care,
Coral
Thanks! Winston is anything BUT a picky eater, lol, although Ollie can be... I usually feed them a mix of 3 foods-- sometimes more than 1 at a time, but they get all 3 at some point within any given day-- but I'll see if any of the foods causes those issues. Ollie coughed up a hairball today (this one was definitely hairball-related), so some of the previous incidents could have been Ollie. I'll also try brushing them more, they already eat hairball control food...
