What a great post! I haven't had kittens in so long and this will be my first Christmas with the boys. I was wondering how they were going to behave with all the ornaments and everything else we put up. I think I will put the glass ornaments up higher. I've been doing this for years for my girls anyway. Funny, this is the first year I don't have a toddler running around and now I will have the kittens to watch. Should be interesting!

My artificial trees were great climbing frames for the cats and kittens. The last time I bought a real tree, I found the needles seemed to deter the cats. I will be getting a real one this year so will see what happens. Only 1 of my 4 kittens climbed the artificial tree last year.

Put the tree up and decorate it without the cats in the area. The activity seems to attract them more than if it just appears. Do not use any items, like "ice cicles," that are dangerous for them.

I was worried about that last year, as it was Frankies first Christmas and I thought he would be after everything on it! In the end, I decided on a new type of artificial tree called 'tree in a box'. It is great! It arrives in a large flat box, when you open it, youput a couple metal poles together to form the frame, then you just drop the tree over it and there itis, all decorated with lights etc, all you have to do is plug it in! Took about 4 mins to assemble it! Afterwards, you just drop it flat again , put itback in the boxready for the next year, great!! There is a pic below in which you can just about see the tree. I thought it was a great idea, and Frankie never touched it at all!

I am glad that I stopped decorating for christmas after my amputation because Teddy would be all over a tree and it would NOT make it to christmas. It wouldn't even survive the same day. That boy thinks he is a mountain goat and can climb anything!! He climbs my wheelchair and stands on the headrest!! I told him he needed to go back and read the ragdoll manual!!

We will have a artificial tree due to I am allergic to pine. We have had a tree for years and no problem with the cats. So I hope this year is no different. Now to decide when to put it up. Not til Dec sometime. One year we were so busy with puppets that the kids offered to put it up for us. It will be sometime after Dec 1 so better go as I am tired. Having my family here wore me out. Has nothing to do with we did not get to bed early as we watched QVC. Boy that is pretty sick having to watch that all evening.

Oh this is a great thread...I need to start thinking about how Solo is going to do. I have one of those trees in a box also, hoping he wont try to knock it over! Jan has a good idea, set it up without them seeing it. You are definitely right, they do get much more curious from activity.

Thanks everyone, I will let you know how I make out. My two little guys chase each other up and down the hall and throughout the house like maniacs lol......Hopefully they won't go "up the tree" too.......I remember reading about another kind of spray for the trees but can't remember the name of it. I hope this one works.
