I know that this question is not new... But hope that you will bear with me..

What is the most recommended kitty litter, esp for Ragdolls? Clumping or non-clumping type? For clumping type, it is of course very easy to scoop out the clumps daily, but what is the impact (to the health) if the cats accidentally ingest the sand while grooming themselves daily, esp in long term? For non-clumping type, there is going to be this tracking and dust issue. How does one clean the non-clumping type? Weekly change of sand?
What about the newer types of pine/corn pellets and recycled paper? Silica crystals? Are they good? Or just marketing strategies of introducing new stuffs?
Hope to get some advice/feedback here... Thks in advance!

Hi,
We have been using the World's Best clumping type (from Petsmart) - It is a ground corn. I thought this would be best as it is natural. I have been paranoid of exposing Charlie to unnecessary chemicals as our last cat died of stomach cancer (at the age of 16). As a new Fur Mom I am trying to keep everything for him natural.
I am interested to hear what others are using as well.
I like the worlds best kitty litter ( corn) xtra strength formula the best. I have a single cat ( tuna, almost 10 months old). For some reason the " xtra strength formula" of worlds best, has little to no tracking, but the original was horrible.
I am very happy with WB.
I have always thought that cats prefer litter like sand….. (I’m sorry, I hope to be understood), so I have never tried the corn pellets o recycled paper, I have tried only litter like sand, but for example, my cats don’t like the silica crystals, and at the end I have chosen the clumping type, very thin.
Even if Lucy is a Persian cat, I haven’t noticed problems with the sand on her fur, I mean I haven’t seen her paws with the litter sand
I think that it is important the frequency of the cleaning, I have 3 litter box, one outside the house and 2 inside, and I clean them every morning and every evening, in this way the litter isn’t too wet, damp to be stuck on the paws, and it is so thin to go away when cat moves the paws.
Anyway I wait the advise of the experts

We used the corn WB until recently. We switched because the litter was everywhere and boy was there an odor. I guess when you have 4 cats there will be. We have 5 litterboxs and all smelled and yes they are cleaned often.
We just switched to Petco's bulk brand of clumping litter and they love it and no smell and little tracking.
I do not think there is any right or wrong answer but use what your cats like and will use. I know the boys like this much better.
I use the silica crystals. Its very easy to clean and little to no smell. Monkey doesn't mind it at all. It absorbs the urine instead of clumping it up (I HATE clumps of urine) and dehydrates the poop so twice a day I just scoop that out. I tried the litter pearls of the silica at first and hated them, if they get out of the box they roll everywhere! Now I'm interested to know what others think of the silica form of litter, is it not healthy as others have implied? I've not seen an adverse affect on either Monkey or Koa (who always has to have his nose into whatever Monkey is doing!). Is there some sort of long term effect anyone knows of?
I did use a clumping sand type litter until it went up in price, I then changed to a cheaper brand of the same thing but the baby powder smell was awful. I now use neat n' tidy from pets4homes. It's clumping and slightly larger granuals than sand. They do a multi cat variety and the girls are fine with it and no smell at all. I put a bath mat outside the boxes which catches any litter that gets on the cats paws. I did use a plastic mitt thing especially for this but it was useless, the bath mat works a treat.
It isn't recommended to use clumping litter with very young kittens as some do tend to eat it.
Regards the silica based litter, a friend uses the anti bac one mixed with another type of litter.
I use Feline Pine (pine pellets). It's what my cats used at the breeder's house, so I kept them on it and I've been very happy with it. It disintegrates into sawdust as moisture breaks down the pellets, and the pine does a good job of neutralizing cat urine. I just scoop the poop a couple times a day, and (because the litter is flushable in small quantities) I flush it rather than having it stink up the garbage can!
Thks for the feedback..

What about the rest? What kind of kitty litter are you using now? Pros and cons? Do share with me..

I have heard of World's Best kitty litter before.. But unfortunately, we don't have it here in Singapore.. We only have brands like Cat's Pride, Purina Tidy Cats, and some lesser known brands like Pee Wee (similar to OZ Pet), Vitakraft (silica crystal), Breed Celect (recycled paper), etc..
For those pine/recycled paper pellets, after it disintegrate into dust, will it make the place very dusty? How about the odour control for these type?
I read from the web that kittens are more likely to eat the kitty litter as they are curious lil ones, so non-clumping type is more suitable for them.. But, the urine will seep into the bottom of the non-clumping sand, and accumulate at the bottom.. Won't it be smelly? Will it be very difficult to clean the litter tray and get rid of the ammonia smell?
I use the oz pet (wood pellets) and silica crystals. I have found that the silica crystals do well with smell and the oz pet doesnt do so well.
But the oz pet is much easier to clean and you can completely separate clean from dirty litter. I cant do that with the silica crystals so i use alot more than that.
I still havent found a little that i am completely happy with, but my little monster (edward) only like the silica crystals and i dont want to upset him.
make sure you keep them on the litter that the breeder has them on to start with... and then experiment by adding new trays
