I was just wondering how long it would be before the points are fully formed on my kitten. I have a chocolate mitted ragdoll and he is changing so fast now. His face and tail have got a lot darker now. I know Ragdolls can take up to 4 years to mature and I was wondering if that was the same time for the points to fully form.

He is soooo handsome!! More pics please! I've heard that it can take 3-4 years for ragdolls to reach their full coat color. He has changed alot in just a few weeks. What a cutie!
Although there are increases and reductions, pointed cats can darken throughout their entire lives since the density "control" is temperature of the skin.

Is it possible for a seal colorpoint to lose the color in her tail after having and nursing kittens?
Any pointed cat will lose color when that area warms for any reason. I do not know why a litter would cause that. The tail does not have much circulation, so one would expect it to stay cool - and dark. However, perhaps more fur on the tail will raise the temp. Did her tail get bigger at the time?

Her tail is about the same size and fullness. It is a mystery but I hope the dark color comes back soon.
Gail our seal point also lost it darkness and is more gray than dark brown. We do not know why either. I too want her dark tail but I will take whatever I get. Glad to know our cat is not the only one.
My first chocolate boy 'faded out' over summer but I'm not sure if that's the same thing.
love the picture, so handsome!

That's very interesting Jan. Amazing to think it's the temperature that controls this. Cody has more definition in his face now and is becoming quite handsome - I am looking forward to him maturing into a fully fledged male.

Thanks to all of you for your comments, it's very much appreciated.
