Hi all, my name's Ally and I just signed up.

i am a mother of two and in about 2 weeks I will be the proud mum of a ragdoll kitten. I have attached a picture of her and I hope it worked..

I think I am more nervous about the kitten's impending arrival than I was about my children being born!

I just want any advice you can give me really.. My children are 3 and 5. so introducing and keeping kitten safe from them..not that they would delibrately hurt kitty, but may accidently ..and ideas/suggestions to help with the beginning of that.... um I am a SAHM so shoudl have lots of time to spend getting her used to her new home..

The breeder asked me if I wanted to take the stitches from desexing out myself...is that normal? is that hard/easy?

What sould I expect in the first few days? What is normal? your experiences... and would love to hear if you think my kitty is cute! lol[attachment=1080]
Your little girl is adorable! What's her name?

I brought Albus home around 5pm. He was quite timid and afraid, we took him straight into his safe room inside his carrier and opened it so that he could come out in his own time. I sat in there with him for about half an hour making what I thought were comforting noises and he still wasn't making any move to come out so I patted him and rolled a ball in there. After a bit he came out and started sniffing around, checking everything out. He sniffed me for a while too and climbed over me realising that I wasn't going to hurt him. We played with his toys for a little bit and then I showed him his litter and scratched his paws in it, then I showed him his food and water- he didn't eat or drink anything that night. We played for a bit more, I showed him his litter in the same way again and then put him in his bed and petted him until he went to sleep.

I left him in there alone for the night, checking up on him. The next morning he was once again very timid and hid in his scratching post until I lured him out like the night before. He went to the toilet in his litter about an hour of me being in there with him and had some food and water which made me extremely happy! When he got used to me playing with him, one by one the other inhabitants of our house went into his safe room and he got used to them and played with them. The next day we opened his room so that he could venture out at his own pace. It actually took about a week before he was 100% confident in every area of the house- the lounge really freaked him out at times and he would be fine then hear a sound on the tv or our bird squak and sprint, ears down back to his room.

There were two accidents that he had, both in the first week of having him. The first he peed on a sleeping bag in the sitting room and I immediatley picked him up, took him into his room, put him into his litter, scratched his paws in it and shut him in there until I cleaned up his mess. The next time (the day after) he was in my room in the middle of the day and peed on one of my duvets. He hasn't had an accident since, I'm not sure why he did those two but I suppose he was just getting used to things and might of forgotten where his room was or something.

Two weeks after he came home I let him sleep in my bed and he has slept there every night since, He is a delight to have around, makes me and my family laugh daily and we cannot wait to get him a brother or sister.

I hope everything goes well with your new ragdoll and that she touches your heart like my Albus does! By the way, she really is beautiful Smile
Hi Ally, welcome to the forum! Your Ragdoll kitten looks very cute... Seal colourpoint, right? She looks like one of the member's kitten, by the name of Titan... LOL! But, I guess all kittens look more or less the same... Regarding the stitches, if it were me, I don't think I will dare to remove the stitches by myself.. You might want to wait for other more experienced members to give you advice..
Enjoy yourself in this forum, and have lotsa fun with your Ragdoll! I am sure your kitten will grow up very nicely, provided you give her lots of TLC (tender loving care) Smile
Hi, and welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll do fine since you sound like you're aleady in love with your new one and are interested in doing things right. Your kitten is adorable!

Take the stitches out?? Are you kidding me? I've never heard of that. Usually they stay with the breeder until they are healed from their spay - about a week....I didn't even know they used stitches that had to be removed, but if they do, I would think the vet would be the one that needed to remove them. Some of the breeders on here may have other insight for you.
Hi and welcome, your kitten is adorable. I would take your new kitten to your vet and have them remove the stitches. Smile As for bringing her home all should go really well. Usually you have to worry more if their are other pets in the home. You will probably end up wondering why you were so worried in the first place.
Congratulations, you are going to love your kitten soooo much! Smile

Usually the kitten is released to the new home several days after the alter surgery. A bit longer if a girl and if flying to a new home. There are no stitches to take out and the kittens heal quite fast. I would think the breeder would make sure no complications prior to release to the new home.
Welcome Ally, I call my Granddaughter that. My grandaughter plays well with the cats and she is 2. She played dr with Zeke and had a toy BP thing on his paw pumping and Zeke laid there purring. Not much I can add to what the others have said and the kids will do fine.

Welcome again.
Welcome. Yes, she is very adorable. Our first kitten came home the day after her spaying. We took her to the vet 2 days later for her first visit with us as her owners. This is usually standard procedure in the contract, take your kitten to the vet to make sure she is healthy. While there our vet took the glue off her stitches, and a week later took them out for us. I am sure your vet will handle that for you. I didn't feel comfortable doing that myself.

I think with small children, Albus has the right idea. Let her get used to her room alone, then to you, then slowly introduce her to your children. Having just written that, I laughed, because what 3 & 5 year old will not clamor to see the kitten immediately!! Just make sure you are always there with the kitten to monitor her play with your children. More for the kitten at this point.

Congratulations, and welcome to the forum.
Thanks for the welcome everyone! In regards to her name, I was thinking Ashley (Ash for short)..because of her sooty nose! Probably not very original.

In 2/3 weeks I will post some pics of her at our house!
