I updated my thread, again (1 Jan 2010).........for the latest please read my initial post.
That's great news Diane!! I wonder if they'll ever have bullets. Simone has never had bullets, just well formed poos, so that may be normal for some (Samantha gives bullets but is prone to constipation too). It sounds like you are well on the way and hopefully in another week or two we'll hear that all is well at your home. Keep up the good work, and thank you for never giving up on them. You're such a good mom!!
Thank you for the update I have been wondering how your babies were doing.
Hi. I've been reading posts off and on on this forum about "poop" since I got my Ragdolls: Max now 9 months and Milo now 5 months. After reading your post the proverbial lightbulb may have gone off. The mud pie description that you give, the foul smell, and the bum baths are all striking a cord. I knew something wasn't right because 15 years ago I had another cat which was just an ordinary kitten that someone gave me. His poop never was runny that I remember and it certainly never cleared the house as Max and Milo do. My house is 5,550 sq. feet and the litterbox is in the master bath at the end of the house. I promise that within minutes you can smell what one of them has done in the kitchen! I have tried all kinds of different foods thinking that that was the problem. So let me get this straight. The stools are NOT supposed to look like squeezed out toothpaste or runnier and it is NOT supposed to smell absolutely horrible, right?
Robbie,

In my opinion, you are correct.

All furkids can have an off stool once in awhile, but if that's all you're seeing, mudpiles and runs and "clear the house" smell, then they could have Tritrichomonas Foetus or some other parasite or trichomonad. TF waxes and wanes, tho my one kid never had a normal stool from the time we got her.

Have they had stool samples examined? If so, what kind of tests? Were they fresh samples or refrigerated samples? Have you ever observed blood or mucus in the stool? How often do they produce stool, once or twice a day or more? Have you noticed if they occasionally pass gas with a stool? What color would you say the stool is?

You mentioned you have two. I'm assuming you got them at different times since they are spread apart in age. Did either of them ever have a well formed stool? or were both always as you've described? Did they come from the same breeder or different breeders? Did you contact the/their breeders and let them know about the smell, consistency, etc?

If you'd prefer, you can email me through my PM and I'd be happy to chat with you.

In my opinion, all potential kittens should be tested for this prior to adoption. This is becoming more widespread and I'm sure many breeders may not know they even have this and stool issues upon arrival in the new home may be attributed to the "move" and not to a health issue which they may have. While many here and in the vet community may not consider this life threatening, let me tell you all, that dealing with these stool issues on a daily basis is no fun for them or for the adopted family. It has definitely been a quality of life issue thus far and I only hope that it does not lead to more serious complications down the road, i.e., irritable bowel disease. Our kids have once again slid back to the depths of mud and bum baths and we are still waiting on the rerun test for one of them. I'm continuing on my quest to find a reason and have another possible suspect and if the rerun test result ever comes and it's negative then I will pursue this as I did TF. Perhaps it's time for breeders of all breeds to institute a testing protocol to determine if they do have a TF issue. An economical way for breeders to do this is using the Pouch tests which has a very good rate for detecting infestation.
For those that wish to read our continuing saga, I've updated my original post.
Thank you for the update Diane. Hope you get results soon so you know where you're going from here.
Thanks T for still reading. The sample is at the vets and hopefully will be on it's way today or tomorrow. The vet is out of the office and the staff didn't seem to expect me.........so evidently they have a communication problem, once again.

I'm disappointed I've not had a response to my last email to NC State last week regarding another trichomonad that sometimes if also found with TF and requires a separate PCR to detect. I'm still haunted that this is still a medical issue, i.e., another bug of some sort tho all normal testing/PCRs were negative. They all seem to be on the same playing field, good poo day (for them) or sour poo day (more of). All for one and one for all.......my three little chunky bum raggiemouseketeers. I think I'm going to buy some stock in the shampoo and rubber glove companys. We've moved beyond the wipeys phase again. I'm so thankful that dad has no quams about wiping bums, bathing and cuddling them dry. If I were alone in this I'd be more overwhelmed than I am.
When did you send the e-mail? If it was late last week, the delay might be due to the long weekend... I hope they're able to figure out what's going on (again) and that your cats feel better soon, poor babies!
Diane, I admire you both for your courage and tenacity in dealing with TF and trying to find the cause/cure for it. I sincerely hope that all of your efforst will soon be rewarded by answers to your questions and healthy stool samples from your kids. I hope they haven't got damaged colons from the TF and my thoughts a prayers will remain with you until you get to post on here that all is well. It's great that you can still see a funny side and I'm glad you've got your Dad to help when bum cleaning becomes a major challenge. Thanks for keeping us updated and informed. I for one am constantly on the look-out for any signs that my large, multi-cat household is showing any signs and I hope that should it ever happen I as a breeder would be there to support the families belonging to my kittens.
