Wylee has had to undergo cleaning of his teeth as he has inheirted something from them or one of his parents. He has teeth like a 7-8 yr old cat and he is not quite 2.
They said during the procedure that his gums bled alot. They put him on clindamycin for 10 days and has to do this 4x a year. They changed his food to Science Diet T/D.

I said that to ask does anyone know anything about the food. The one thing I did see is chicken byparts which did not thrill me. Also to you who know is there anything besides that I could try? I want what is best for Wylee since he is my ragdoll wannabe. He is so loving.

I did ask my vet why is it free kittens end up being so expensive. He has a check up in 2 weeks to see if this will help with his problem and if no improvement or it comes right back then they are going to step B which is to check for autoimmune disease.

Just wanted to see if anyone can enlighten me on this. Thanks and sorry if the question may seem dumb to some but hey I am blonde and I do have senior moments.
Special diets can be central to effectively dealing with particular health issues. I would not second guess anything until you see how it works out. (Special diets do not cater to the non-mainstream beliefs about ingredients, since they are formulated to deal with a particular problem and are not being marketed based on other characteristics about what is "best.")
Thanks Jan. I really do not understand all this stuff and so I knew if anyone knew it would be you. I will not second guess about his teeth as I sure do not want them to have to be pulling them. Thanks again it really is appreciated.
I am glad that Wylee did well and is back home with his family. Way to go Wylee!!
Sorry that you're having this problem with Wylee Paula. Hope his gums heal up quickly
I sure hope wylee gums feel better after his meds.
Nothing like a sore mouth poor babySad
Hi Paula,

Sorry to hear you're going through this with Wylee. Just curious, has he been tested for calicivirus? It can contribute to juvenile gingivitis - tartar build up and gum inflammation.

I am not sure. I will ask as we go back in 2 weeks. The vet said he thought it was something he got from either his mom or his dad a stray. He has his teeth cleaned and has to eat the special food and if it has made no difference in 2 weeks he says then he thinks it will be an autoimmue disease but said we will cross that when we get to it. His brother lives behind us with the neighbors so I need to go and ask them about Boo.

Thanks guys as I will ask them about all that when we go back or if they call. The vet usually will call after a few days to check on them.
What about brushing his teeth? When I took Solo to the vet they highly recommended it. There are enzymatic toothpastes and kitty toothbrushes at pet stores, and the toothpaste tastes like fish for them.
He told us too also so we will but have to go get the stuff tomorrow. That is James job. I do the lovin and he can do the troubleshootings.
Thanks much.
