At first Gabriel would wake me up in the middle of the night-licking my face. Now, he has started chewing and sucking on one of his back paw. I have noticed that when he is not playing, eating or trying to lick me, he is usually chewing or sucking on his back paw. He is not limping. He is still running around and keeping up with his sister-although I have noticed he is not running as much. He is still climbing. He is not constantly meowing. Yet, he wants to climb in my lap and suck his back paw. I already have a vet visit scheduled for this coming Saturday for shots. I am going to discuss this with the vet. I did back up and step on his paw one day and wonder if the back one is the paw I stepped on. What can I do between now and Saturday?

I've heard of kittens sucking on their paws before (I guess like a kid sucks their thumb) - He sounds like he's still active, so probably no problem waiting until Saturday and discussing it with the vet. (The pictures of them are being posted even as I type this, right??)

Check the claws on that paw. When they are shedding a layer of claw, that will irritate the skin and cats will chew at them - where in the front they will scratch something. There may be something else that is bothering him and it is probably associated with a claw or wound.

It's hard to believe that Charlie was ever that small!! That was such a cute video....

Sounds alot like Gabrial!

Took the Gs to the vet for their shots. Asked the vet about Gabriel sucking his paw. She looked at his paw and nails and did not see anything of concern. The verdict: he is probably doing it for security. Just as I thought-like a child sucking his thumb. The vet recommended that I may want to spray his paw with fooey spray to deter the behavior, if it becomes too annoying or he injures himeself.

Awww, sweet baby........just one more endearing thing he does!!
