Hi everybody,
What kind of food do you give to your cats? Wet or dry?
I want to make it clear first that I buy only high quality food (may I write the name here?) and Lucy is 10 years old persian and Charlie is 5 months old, Alice will arrive on 18th december and she will be 3 months old.
Usually I give to my cats wet food 2 times a day and dry food is always at their disposal. Is it ok?
I think what you are doing is great.

A little expensive and maybe not necessary to give 2 wet offerings a day.

I give my 2 Raggies Royal Canin dry all day everyday and offer a 'treat' of wet food every second day.

I spoke to the vet about this and she said that good quality dry mix is the best and will meet all of their dietry needs, however it is good to offer 'treats" - raw mince, chicken necks & quality wet food every second day as it will give them variety, making them less picky. Also if they ever become sick or have dental issues wet mix maybe all they can have for a while and by offering it occasionally you have covered your bases should that happen.

When it is all said and done I think a number of factors come into what you feed your pets and no one way is 100% better than another. Some people have picky cats, others have to watch their money etc

If in doubt (which I doubt you will be after the responses you get on here) talk to your vet.

Hi there, My kitten was having just dry food feed freely all day, but she seemed to get bored and to me seemed a little depressed. So I tried mixing in some wet food which she absolutely loved. The happiness was short lived as she had a really upset stomach. Now I have gone back to just dry and occassional roast chicken. She is not eating hardly any thing now and I am still trying to find the best food for her which I think is going to take quite some time. Sorry I have probably not helped at all.Rolleyes
If free fed dry and two wet meals a day works for your cats, then that is a great approach.
Our vet strongly encouraged us to get our cat onto wet food. He had always had free dry available with a small evening canned snack. We upped his wet food to 2 larger portions, one morning and one evening. He is quite attached to those. He still has dry available but doesn't eat a lot of it. It's been almost a year now and he is doing very well on this diet. I have noticed that as he has gotten older he is much less finicky about his wet food. He liked very little of it as a kitten, now he will eat almost any type. We do give him a variety.
I have 11 cats (yes, I know - I'm a sucker for a kitty - and all of mine are either "drop offs" which find their way to my house...or ones I've rescued from the vet [she will take in stray kittens] or from Petsmart [shelter kitties]) - and I feed mine a combo. I give them wet food - in several dishes...and dry food is given as the bowl is emptied.

It is very difficult for me to gauge (as you can imagine) how much any one cat eats...so I have to have the dry available all day long...as there are still Alpha cats/a hierarchy amongst them.

I've read online that you should not give them different types/brands of cat foods...and even some that say to give them the same flavour. Blech! I couldn't live my life eating Stouffer's meatloaf every day - so I don't expect my kitties would like the same thing day in - day out, either.

My cats have not had a lot of health issues - some do throw up occasionally (usually when they gobble it down too quickly) - or a hairball - and they range in age from a couple years old to over 20...so what I'm doing must be okay so far, I'd think.
my cats get only dry food and water. My exotic shorthair dont even want too eat anything else. When offered chicken, he just smell it and walk away. Same for any other tasty food... My ragdoll, she wants other food, but dont get it. I enjoy them not begging at the table, the cat i had before theese was terrible....

They get maby 70-90% RC hair and skin. And sometimes if i find a "bargain" of maby hills or another brand (not IAMS!) i buy and mix it with the RC. i keep it in a large box in the kitchen that contain about 4kilos (10 pounds ?) and i add a little of other brands dry food. im no expert, and im sure RC is quality food. But then i think, maby that other food contains a little different nutrition that would be nice to add.
We have kept the kittens on raw food, as the breeder was feeding them this. So we are using minced chicken or lamb, combined with mashed pumpkin to keep them regular, a sardine and occassionally a bit of cheese or yoghurt. They also gnaw on cat grass. We were having a rough time adapting to this type of feeding and the time involved, so we introduced some good quality dry biscuits which they seem to enjoy, almost more than the raw food. My concens were that one woudl seem to get gastro and then the other wouldn't, so it was hard to know if it was off food or not.
