As you may have read from my other post, we recently had a serious invasion of moths, which appear to have nested in my piano and the rug underneath it. They have been feeding on piano felt for the last 6 months and my poor piano has to have major repair (it is then being sold as I'm getting a new one, but that's another story!). The rug will be thrown away.

Before the new piano arrives (it will already be anti-moth treated), we want to ensure that the moths are well and truly gone. I phoned this company for advice and they recommended this spray: It does say it can be safely used where there are children or pets, but I thought it best to double check for advice on this forum before we sprayed. Does anyone know anything about Cypermethrin? Thanks in advance

"ONLY AVAILABLE FROM PEST CONTROL DIRECT - LOWEST ONLINE PRICE GUARANTEED.

Pro-Active C is a very wide spectrum crawling and flying insect killer and we have sold the active ingredient (Cypermethrin) for the past 6 years with excellent results.

In top quality container with child-proof cap and comes with a superb adjustable trigger head.

Based on Cypermethrin 0.1%, (same strength as the previously sold Protector C) this water based product is of very low odour, has no solvent side effects, and is very effective against virtually all crawling insects.

The chemical has excellent residual qualities combined with a good knockdown effect.

Apply at one litre per 20 square metres for best results

We suggest you also order a Face Mask (EN149) if you will be spraying above waist height or suffer from asthma, these are available below.

This product can be safely used where there are children or pets. Just ensure that they are not in the treatment area at the time of treatment, and are not permitted into the treated area until surfaces are dry (usually around 3 hours)"
I had never heard of it, but researched and found this
http://www.bugspray.net/safety-concerns/...-pets.html

I think the interesting point they make is to make sure all pet toys are removed from the area being treated too....but overall it looks like a good option.
Thanks Teresa! Today has been Operation Demoth. We lifted the piano out and found an infestation of moths deep down in our Oriental rug - there must have been hundreds of them - UGHHH!! The cats are still in the spare bedroom, with water, food, litter tray. We decided to throw their cat tree away to be on the safe side (it was wobbly anyway) and their toys. I had a lovely morning at Pets at Home. They have a new tree, new toys and a designer throw (black and white) to match the piano! We sprayed everywhere, including the piano pedals, had to bin the frame of our wedding photo as the velvet was being eaten by moths and the rug has been binned. We should have cracked it now and kitties can soon go back in - they've been out of the room for nearly 5 hours.
That's great Liz -- hope it all works. Sounds like you've covered all the bases. And YEAH!! New cat tree and toys - the boys will love them (you didn't leave Buster out did you? You did get him some new toys too, right??)
