Hi all! Meow! Kim and Ted here from Wheeling, IL. About 3 years ago we got brother and sister Max and Chloe from a rescue shelter. They were saved from a flooded window well during a storm, probably about 4-6 weeks old. We hand nursed them up and they even had an adoptive Mama at our place for a while. Chloe is a total runt, still very small but with great spirit. She's a domestic longhair tri-color Tortie (or something?). Max is a HUGE big boy Tom longhair (or something?), two color gray and white. They remain co-dependent and both still show some storm anxiety issues -poor things, you would too!

They share: toe-pad stiff hair tufts (white), Out of the ear tufts, point tufts at their ear tips, impressive whiskers, HUGE fancy plume tails. Both have rather fancy neck ruffs and manes - but Max MUCH more so. Chloe has tortie colors as good as any I've seen, if she wasn't SUCH a little runt I'd probably try showing her, she's that pretty.

Our shelter and our vet ID'ed them both as domestic longhairs but my wife was showing Max pictures to a fancier who exclaimed; "where'd you get that RAGDOLL?!" Hmmm...

Studying the site here, Max has just about every described trait - except his colors. Max Ragdoll stuff:

-The thickest coat I've seen on a cat, straight everywhere except his tummy, where it's nicely curly. (But - he has a multi-layered under-coat). Coat like a Buffalo, I count at least 6 layers.) Daily brushing.
-Spends endless hours on the carpet lolligagging and rolling on his back with his back feet spread wide, pretty odd.
-Pronounced ruffs from out of his ears and another from the sides, just below his ears and a lion-like neck mane which runs all the way around his neck.
-Small, sweet voice. But sometimes he tries vocalizing to me (Dad). Hound dog type talking in sentences, pretty funny. He wants something.
-Totally bonded to my wife, follows her around. Loves kids.
-Loves belly rubs and grooming and head pats, hates being kissed.
-Many dog-like behaviors, plays fetch, chases and rolls balls, follows, begs, chow hound. Wakes me up for breakfast every day. Will sit with me for endless hours. Does hit and run style tactics off my plate to steal french fries.
-Loves cupboards and closets.
-Sweet, docile disposition, great w/kids but gets too rowdy w/Sister.
-Love/Hate thing with lamps. Uses them to cook his head. If he can't adjust them to where he wants them - he destroys them.
-Definite choking hazard cat and will try to eat almost anything at least once. I recently extracted a Jewel Food's dozen-apple, Red nylon mesh bag from down his throat (the entire bag!). He seemed to delight in swallowing it.
-Loves to sit out on the porch with me and sits down for his leash and harness. Complains if it isn't on right. Curious about dogs.
-Incredibly wide hips. Big feet. Short stubby legs. Big chest. Very strong. Huge mouth. Big, strong dull teeth, refuses to really bite.
-Bursts of high energy activity in the morning after breakfast and sometimes late at night, lazy and napping the rest of the time.
-Constant fight keeping him out of the gas clothes dryer.
-Hates water, even a tiny droplet makes him run.
-No matter how much I tease or annoy him he won't get aggressive with me.
-Loves the jump and climb up the interior door jambs, can get 6 feet high without front claws. Spectacular to see, the whole house shakes. We had him front de-clawed as they were clearly dangerous, about a half inch long and dagger-like. He does just fine without them. We left Chloe's in so she could defend herself and she tears up furniture, wall paper, etc.
-Exact same profile and body shape as all the gallery pictures.

So, we are really wondering... Have we got some half-breed (or more) Ragdolls on our hands here? They are such great cats!

I'll try to attach some pictures.

Welcome. Stay around and share and share pictures of your team. They sound great and it is wonderful that you found each other, particularly with those circumstances. In any event, they are not Ragdoll or part Ragdoll. The vet was right.
The little I know about "pure bred" Raggies is that they all MUST have blue eyes. Yours certainly have the thicker coat and rounded face, but it is hard to tell if they had a possible Ragdoll in their ancestry. They are gorgeous though!
Welcome! Ragdolls or not, your babies are beautiful!!
not all raggies are blue eyes. there are minks and self coloured raggies whom i thinks aurorapets breed if i am correct they do not have blue eyes. ragdoll or not they are gorgeous!!!!
Few breeders deal with the unaccepted variants of minks or solids, so the chance of one of those being behind a found kitten is small. (These cats, though very nice, do not have Ragdoll type, in any event.)
Many thanks for the replies and feedback. I'll have to try to get a side profile shot of Max, his shape is a carbon copy of the ragdoll pics here, less the color. I'm still wondering if some breeder's ragdoll tom got out and had some fun with a stray. Doesn't really matter, just curious. They are amazing cats. They had amazing blue eyes as kittens but grew out of them. Meow! - Ted & Kim
You have to remember that the Ragdoll is a non-extreme breed. It does not have the flat face of the Persian or the spideryness of the show Siamese. That means many random bred cats will have one or more Ragdoll characteristic - and sometimes many of those characteristics. The reason to get a Ragdoll is the predictability of getting those characteristics and many with Ragdoll like moggies will then get a Ragdoll.
