I used to think cats were too passive to train these commands--but Kota learned this in 30 min! it may not be much--but for a kitten, i was impressed!

That was amazing[Image: DANCING-banana-032.gif][Image: DANCING-banana-032.gif][Image: DANCING-banana-032.gif]
Sam's only two tricks are jumping up into my arms on command (he's learned not to jump up until I give the command because sometimes he was ready to be caught and I wasn't ready to catch!) and jumping down out of trees and off the roof onto my shoulder so I don't have to get the ladder out. I wish I had video, now.

Here's some video I have, though, of him playing with one of his favourite toys - a sponge rubber rugby ball. We'd just come back from our walk so he has his harness and lead on.

Holy cow! I've never seen anything like that!!! Props to Dakota for being so smart, and to you for being able to train a kitty! Great!
Wow, that is amazing. And I must say I love your accent Smile
WOW! Please put down how you trained your little kitty this amazing trick Smile I can't wait to train mine to do the same!
Thanks guys! I was surprised too at how quickly he caught on! so the first thing I did was find something that he really really liked--for Dakota, it was wiskas temptations treats--temptations for him is like what chocolate is for me, and he will pretty much do anything to get them. then i trained him to come to me on command, and i would always use his name in the command. When he came, i would say 'good boy!' and give him a treat. Once he got that down, i added the 'sit' command--and again i would alway use his name "sit Kota' and i would kind of bring the treat up over his head, so it forced him to sit in order to get the treat. Soon he started sitting with just the command 'sit Kota'--and he wouldnt get a treat until he came AND he sat. Finally I added 'up Kota' to the mix and trained him to sit up on his hind legs in much the same way as I taught him sit--and he was soon able to do this on command as well. we only trained for about 5 min a day, and not even every day--but he still caught on..cats are smart! Also, I try to use hand motions with each of the commands because Dakota seems to respond more to body language than to words. Kota seems eager to learn, so I am hoping that this is just the beginning. Like I said, when I started with him I wasn't expecting too much, just because of what I've heard about the difficulty in training cats anything. Also, I think it helps not to give treats too freely, and only to reward him when he is doing something good (of course i am a sucker for those sad begging eyes sometimes) I am glad you enjoyed his video *Dakota takes a bow* and, Jane, I would love to see a video of Sam jumping into your arms--how cute!!! maybe we can work on that next (-:
I am very impressed, how did you do that?
