Hi I just had to post something to fly the flag for older cats.
I just wanted to remind all the potential Raggie onwners out there thinking about bringing a Ragdoll into their homes to consider a 'rescue' cat. There are so many adavantages in older cats

I have adopted two older cats, Tilly an ex breeding queen, she is a little aloof with strangers and the other cats, but she is a complete darling, she has never ever soiled the house, torn furniture, in fact apart from her being a bit standoffish at times she is been perfect.

And Harry who was a rehome, I adopted him knowing that he had toileting problems, he had bouts of Cystitis brought on by stress by the situation he was in. When i first saw him in his old home i couldn't believe my eyes, he was absolutely stunning, the ppl he lived with brought him in and put him in my arms and he purred and cuddled into me, he was everything and more than what i would have wanted in a Ragdoll. From that day to this (nearly one year ago) Harry has never once soiled the house. He just needed to be in a different situation.

Just take a minute to think of all the beautiful cats out there needing a home through no fault of there own. Because the are up for adoption doesn't mean there is something wrong with them, most of the time they are just in the wrong situation.
It is so heart warming and rewarding to see them growing in confidence and blossoming into the wonderful cats they should be!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, any other successful adoption stories welcomed Smile
I agree. It is nice when you can make a difference. Thanks for sharing
If I didn't have my husband (The Voice of Reason) I would be a crazy old cat lady rehoming Ragdolls from far and wide.
I also adopted older ragdolls, and I will do so again (assuming I outlive my girls). Kittens are adorable and cute, but my lifestyle is more for the quieter laid-back cat -- an older raggie.

I highly recommend older raggies that need to be rehomed.
Aww, well said, Anita! If I had to do it again, I'd rehome an older Raggie (or moggie) instead of buying a kitten. Don't get me wrong, I love Teddy. But I'm looking forward to when he's older, more mellow and a tad lazier. Wink
I agree whole-heartedly - it's a shame that so many animals never get adopted. Not that I have any Ragdolls (I have a partial Ragdoll we figure) - but all of my cats were either "drop offs" that found their way to my house, adopted by the vet (she takes in stray kitties), or from Petsmart (the animal shelter does a deal with Petsmart). And I've never been disappointed.

Okay - maybe once - but she's still nice...Binky just growls a lot...but has never acted out. I just think she was born a "curmudgeon". Wink She likes to complain. I shoulda named her "Rooney" after Andy Rooney. Smile

A few of my cats were adopted as "cats" - two and three years old...and I've never regretted not choosing a kitten over them.
Hello,
I know your post is from a while ago, but I just wanted to let you know that I agree wholeheartedly. In fact I just posted my adoption story in the introduction thread.
Meet Poppit and Bella, adopted from Animal Aid in Victoria, Australia;

So beautiful, I love happy endings don't you?
Indeed. Often I donate to the local shelters...bedding, food etc...3 of my cats are from shelters...and an additional 3 who are at the rainbow bridge, were also homeless. Good on you EmmaSmile

It's a great feeling isn't it? I was pretty keen to get a raggie kitten from a breeder then decided that I'd rather get one a little older because their temperament is more obvious by that stage etc.
Then I ended up logging on to petrescue.com.au which lists animals from shelters all over Australia and I thought to myself "well, a shelter cat really needs someone to help them, whereas a ragdoll from a good breeder is much more likely to find a good home" so I gave up on the idea of ever owning a ragdoll tbh.
It feels like this was meant to be...and because they need to be rehomed together (bella doesn't do well away from poppit at all) I knew that they'd have an even harder time finding a forever home. So I ended up adopting two cats instead of one! Smile
now I just need to be patient until we move in to our new house and then we'll go bring them home Smile Yay!
I can't wait to share stories and pics with everyone here. In all honesty I was a little hesitant to join since they don't have papers as I wasn't sure if they would be accepted as ~proper~ ragdolls by the members. So thanks for welcoming us so generously Smile
