How big should a ragdoll be at 3 months old? How much should they weigh and how long should they be? Albus seems nice and long but it doesn't look as though he is very 'big'/fat (the vet said he's healthy). Do they begin to put on more weight as they get older?
Thanks
Matthew
Hi Matthew, although I have no experience of having a Ragdoll from kitten stage, I do know that their size and colours can continue to develop right up until 4 years of age. My 2 have just turned their 3rd Birthday and in conjunction with the onset of winter weight/coat, my girl has just had a huge growth spurt which has seen her features maturing noticeably in a way that didn't happen with the onset of last winter.................so Albus has a long way to go yet.
Having watched other kittens grow via this forum and seen in "person" the changes of Mary's "Frankie" since I first met him at 18 months, I would say you have much change to come and that he will probably keep that lean look of a young cat for at least a couple of years yet before he really starts to fill out.
Assuming that he is eating OK and healthy, I would just sit back and enjoy this period of time, over which he will grow into the cat that will be with you through his adult years.....The stage you are at with Albus, to me, really is an exciting time.....enjoy!!
Thank you Sue. Definitley enjoying him! Thanks for the knowledge of your own ragdolls and their spectacular growth spurts!
You are most welcome Matthew, my Billy is the size of a small dog, I just love the size that ragdolls attain and most of all, the surprise of people who visit, that have never seen large cats before!!!
When I brought Dexter to the vet the first time at about 14 weeks I was shocked (and a little disappointed) to find out he was only 2.5 pounds! I always imagined that my ragdoll would be a BIG boy. I had read online about other rags who at 12 weeks weighed 5 pounds. (although I've heard a pound a month is about right). I had accepted the fact that Dex would probably be a smaller ragdoll. But now all of the sudden he's had a growth spurt. At 6 months old he's now 7.5 pounds. So who knows how big he'll be, he changes all the time! Good luck with your kitty!
My boys were small when I got them or so I thought and now at 8 months Zeke is 10.1 and Mykah 7 months is quickly catching up at 9.5#
I looked up the weight and at 12 weeks they were Zeke 2.5# Mykah 2.8#
Is that pounds, Paula?
Many New Zealand Ragdolls do seem to be from lighter lines than US ones. You're not likely to get the size and weights in Albus that you read about in overseas cats, imo. And you have yet to get through the lanky teenage cat stage when he'll probably look even leaner!
My Sam is only 4kg (nearly 9 lbs?) now at 2.5 years old and that'll be his top weight. He has a big, long frame but he won't ever carry much weight.

My Teddy is also smaller than many males - he's long and lean. At 21 months, he's 10 pounds. By looking at his dainty paws, I don't think he'll get much bigger (that's okay by me - I won't have to super size his tree, litter box, etc.

).
Thanks guys. I think Albus will stay lean, that's fine by me, but ya never do know!
