Hey everyone. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I am on my phone because my laptop powercord broke so I am going to keep this short.
Choca is pooping 3 TIMES a day!! Its ungodly. I can't keep up with cleaning the box while I am at work so has chosen the tiled bath floor as his "spot". Why so much poop? He is getting heavier and I am going through a 13 pound bag ever three weeks between two cats. Is this normal??? Stool checked, no worms.
Thanks! Hope all is well.
Maybe buy more litterboxes, so that each box accumulates less waste while you're at work(to alleviate his using the bathroom floor when the litterbox isn't scooped often enough for his liking). Or if you're using a clumping litter, maybe try one of those automated litterboxes, like the Littermaid.
I find that amount of food less than usual for my house -- I go through a bigger bag than that every three weeks with my three (I'm including Smoke)

Maybe Choca is overeating though and it has to be eliminated some way if he is.....
Hi There
I had a powercord problem myself had to wait 4 week for new one think it walk to my house.
Sorry got off subject
You didn't mention what kind of food are you feeding?
Just to give you idea of what I'm feeding with 3 cat Leyla is a baby but she can put it away she is a little piggy..
I'm going throw 12lbs of dry food about every 3 weeks ,,,Cain Royal and California Natural,,,,
one can of wet split 3 ways,,, Fancy feast elegant Medleys,,,.That is about a teaspoon each of wet.
every morning.
I free feed the dry I have a dish down and a dish up in are bedroom as Cello and Leyla like a night snack before geting itto bed.

Sarah had some good suggestion
may add maybe a bigger box if you don't all ready have one.
My previous Ragdoll ADORED dry kibble and she would eat it until the bowl was empty and then proceed to throw it all up. She just could not stop eating it.

While I know we all like to 'free fee' dry kibble, I don't think there is anything wrong with having regular meal times and only put the food down at that time, whether dry or wet food. That way you can monitor how much they are getting, and maybe see if Choca is eating way more than his/her share of food?

Just an idea.

Valerie
what kind of food do you feed choca? if there are many grains in it such as corn meal, ground whole corn, ground whole wheat, etc = lots of fiber = lots of poop, just something to keep in mind. i def noticed an increase in poop one time when i mixed a bag of food with significantly high amount of grains to my cats' other food.
Hi Heather - nice to see you back, even if it is about poop. lol

I was going to ask the same question about what kind of food you're giving Choca. Teddy isn't a big eater or a big boy (about 10 lbs), but he eats a high protein diet of wet food (2.5 to 3 85 gram/3 oz. cans) and some freeze dried raw and generally poops once a day (thank goodness).

He also has regular mealtimes, so no free feeding / grazing dry kibble.

Hope this helps.

The food you're feeding may contain filler. If it has corn or wheat in it, I would highly suggest switching.
Corn, wheat, rice and other grain products can be present with NO FILLER and NO FIBER. Fiber is desirable in the diet, but the listed sources of nutrition do not meet that requirement. Less stool may not be healthier. Less smell may not be healthier. If there has been no change in his food, then "fillers" and grains are likely not the answer.

Always investigate a medical cause. (Increases in odor and production may indicate parasites or GI infection.) If he needs a cleaner box and is old enough, then a Littermaid is worth a try, but start by letting it operate only when you are there to make sure there a no risks in his use.
corn is something that is hard to digest, and it results with larger and more frequent poops.
