Hi All,
As some of you will know, for the last 3 weeks I have been getting increasingly worried about Frankie's waterworks, or rather the lack of them. We have had 3 Vet visits, blood tests, urine tests, physical eaximinations, weight checks, none of which uncovered any problems at all! Our last Vet visit was on friday and the vet couldn't even get enough urine to test his PH level again. We decided that as he was obviously healthy in all departments we would let things rest unless anything else transpired! Well, saturday, I was on my hands and knees retrieving a toy from behind the TVand my hand touched the bottom of the curtain (full length to the floor) and found it to be damp! On further investigation and checking the reverse of the curtain which is thermal backed, I found stains running about 6 feet along the bottom!!The little monkey has been peeing on it!!! Mystery solved!!! needless to say the curtain came down immediately and was treated then put in the washing machine and I have treated the whole surrounding area to make sure there is no trace left. What I don't know, is why he was doing it, as he was using his litterbox part of the time. Anyway, I have put another litterbox down at that end of the house as I suspect he may just have been lazy. I picked up a tip from one of the internet sites about keeping cats away from the area in future. Apparently, the plastic carpet runner you can get to protect your carpet from muddy shoes, has spikes on the reverse to grip the carpet, but if you turn it over, these spikes act as a deterrant, so I have ordered some. In the meantime I am using foil which seems to be working alongside my water pistol!! I have to say I am a bit miffed at spending over £200 on vet fees and taxis, but hey, at least Imknow he is healthy!
This is a case where Feliway spray may work very well. You have to spray it on the curtain (making sure it will not stain before doing too much) and refresh it frequently - every few days. Using a vertical surface is often a territorial type spraying and you need to look for a whole male who may be spraying outside the house near that area, which may be the stimulus. You also want to make sure his neuter was effective, which is easy, since the vet can check to make sure his penis does not have the barb of whole males.
Oh Mary - I'm so glad you found where he was going - but you must be right about his pee not smelling as I was in your house on two occassions and smelled nothing! I'm glad you've found where he's been going though.
what a cheeky little bugger.
at least u have piece of mind now though.
Mary, I don't know whether to be pleased for you or not - lol. No seriously, I hope you're able to figure out why Frankie chose the drapes instead of his litter box. I think Jan might be onto something, especially given it's near the window.

As you say, at least you know he's healthy!
Damn... LOL the little bugger!!! Yeah the good news he is healthy... and loves curtains Wink
Our children what ya going to do with them but LOVE them anyway. We have gone through that with Sebby but he would only do it when it thundered. He was afraid of storms and then when he got sick but he chose my new couch which evey once in awhile I have to reclean. Well glad the mystery has been solved but not glad for what you found. I know how much you spent in vet bills as we did too but we lost our battle and now just think he is playing with all your animals at rainbow bridge.

Well time to begin my day so talk later all.

Actually, I think You (and Jan) are assuming he has 'sprayed' up the curtain. This isn't the case. The curtain is a few inches longer than the drop and lies on the floor (helps to keep any draft at bay) and he had peed either on it directly or near enough for the curtain to soak it up! When he arrived here, his first week he got over excited playing with my grandson and did a tiddle in that area. Obviously I cleaned it all up, thoroughly I thought, but I am thinking maybe he could still smell something. Still doesn't explain why he should suddenly start doing it though. Anyway, it is all cleaned up now using proffessional strength enzymes(?) cleaner, so hopefully it won't happen again. I am not hanging the curtain back up for the time being and I have put down the carpet protector which should deter him anyway. Fingers crossed!
Oh Mary that's awful little beast!! I hope that does the trick i can just imagine what you felt like when you found it!!

Hi Mary - that's very interesting, indeed. Hopefully that's the end of it (I have my fingers and toes crossed for you). Do you think Frankie objected to your selection in drapes. Wink
