Seems I spoke too soon about Frankie being back to normal! Well, he was for several days, but Yesterday he didn't pee at all and Monday only a small one. I spoke to the vet this morning and I am taking him in again at 17.50 today so he can check him again. He seems fine in himself and as he is definitely not doing anything elsewhere, I have to conclude he just is not producing the urine. I have tried to increase his fluid intake by adding a a good tablespoon full of water to his moist food, which is chunks in gravy anyway,(Royal canin insticntive). He has been eating ok and did a 'poo' this morning but no pee. He didn't do either yesterday. We know he isn't blocked and he is obviously producing some urine. One thing I do notice with him is that his urine does not smell, I thought that was down to good litter control, but when the Vet induced him last Thursday, it didn't smell at all. We know that the acid content is low according to the chart the vet used, but we also know he has not developed any crystals. I don't know if it can be normal for him not to produce much urine, I wonder if he is eating enough, he only has 1 pouch a day and dry food down all the time, but he doesn't eat a great deal of that,. He has a water fountain, which he ignores these days though he used to use it but he prefers to drink from his little bowl these days, but doesn't drink that much. He weighs about 6kg and is 17 months old, when he had his vet check back in July, I asked the Vet then if I should increase his wet food, but he said not to, his weight was fine. No doubt the Vet will have some answers this evening. Fingers crossed.
I hope so and do know that my prayers go with you for answers. I know what it is to worry about our furbabies. If there is anything we can do just ask.
Update on Frankie. We went to the vet this evening and he examined him all over said there was urine in his badder but not overloaded at all. he tested his urine again and there were still white blood cells in it and his PH level was slightly raised other than that it was normal. He took some blood and ran that thru the machine and rang me back later to say there was no sign of any problem with his kidneys or any other organs every thing was within normal limits. The raised PH and white blood cells usually indicate inflamation somewhere and he thinks may be the bladder itselfand the antibiotic shot he had last week should take care of that.Temp was normal. Anyway I've to take him back again next thurs/Fri so he can compare urine readings again, unless anything else develops in the meantime. frankie meanwhile is his usual self and walloped off his food once we were home!
Hi Mary, sorry to hear about Frankie, hopefully your vet can figuar out what is going on with him.
Glad to hear it is nothing serious but yet I am still praying for some wisdom as to what is causing it and get to the root of it. Do keep us posted and thanks for getting back to how it went.
All of that sounds so strange. Personal opinion coming through here....I think I might up his wet food just to get more fluids in him and see if that increases his output. Hopefully the vet is right though and the shot will take care of any inflammation and the results will be improved next week...

That is something I have thought about,T and I may give it a try, but he isn't a big eater and I do want him to have some dry as well to help protect his teeth. His weight is constant in that he is the same now as he was in July at his annual check and the Vet is pleased with that as it shows he is eating enough without over feeding. I will probably see if he will eat a bit more wet food over the next few days and see if it makes any difference. The thing is, he has been peeing normally for 3/4 days and his diet was the same and until last week, he has always been 2/3 times a day. Using a clumping litter, I know exactly how many times he goes in a 24 hr cycle as I clean his box every morning. You will soon be able to see him for yourself !!
Hi Mary,

I hope you and the vet can get Frankie sorted out soon. They're such a worry sometimes! At least it doesn't sound serious.

I was worried about Teddy not using his litter box enough a few weeks ago, but I think it had more to do with our exceptionally warm weather this summer. He was back to normal last week, and now it's really warm again and he's going less. I can't wait for real fall weather - partly so I don't worry so much about Teddy. Wink

Hope that you get the right answers soon!
Hi Mary, so sorry to hear Frankie is poorly... - I'd strongly support Teresa with increasing wet food in Frankies diet - I'd like to ask a question to get more insight into his case if I may.

Are you using a clumping litter? - If so with one cat you surely can tell the amount of wees you find during 24h? - mine are fed wet and raw food only and each of them does at least 4-5 wees during 24h.

Please give this a thought - if he does have dry kibble (24/7) and does not drink enough his urine will be more concentrated and stay a lot longer in his bladder adding to the problem of infection if there is one, than when he's fed a big amount of wet food - fluids do the trick...

Wishing Frankie a speedy recovery....
