Yeah he is gorgeous and he knows it and loves to pose. You can only shot good pics with him... I wish Diwan would be as easy to get a good shot of, but he is camera shy.
Great page to give the differences between ragdolls and birmans. I would add on their facial features that the ears are rounded for a raggie and pointy with a tuft for birmans. They are also placed higher on the head and aren't as large for birmans. The face is rather round for the birman. It's really the nose that gives it away whether it's a birman or a ragdoll, the only exception being ragdolls with balinese or birman in their pedigree (basically those with the new colors). Some of those tend to have a slightly roman nose...
They have a very different body shape. The ragdoll is a lot more massive with broader shoulders and the rump looks often a little higher whereas for a birman it's usually the front that is higher.
My previous birman was 14.5 lbs like Diwan now is but they were quite different. Glamour's body was a lot longer and leaner than Diwan's. When I was taking him by his front legs his head would almost touch my crotch, which isn't the case with Diwan even though he looks as big. Diwan's legs are more strongly build whereas Glamour's were a little thinner (only marginally).
That said birmans aren't as big as they used to be. Glamour was born in 1991 when the breeders were mainly sticking to the original colors (seal and blue). During the 90s persians and balineses were added in the lines and the breed changed a little. You have now some lines that a cobbier than they should be and some that a lot leaner (that's the case with Cyrano; I found balinese ancestry in part of his lines).
In France breeders are working more on giving the breed their original characteristics back and most forgot about bringing in new colors (yeah well some still work on silver and smoke)... I hope they will succeed. I must admit I was shocked when I saw the 'new' birmans when looking for a kitten 2 years ago. I know Glamour was big (his father was even bigger at 16.5 lbs) even for his time but a 12 lbs heavy birman was something you found easily in those years. Now you really have to look to find one of those.
It's still a beautiful but rather crazy breed
